The Nissan Friend-ME Concept is a four-passenger sedan designed for a generation with a very different automotive outlook. With an assertive, imposing exterior featuring boldly flowing sculpted lines, Friend-ME is a confident creature of the night, meant to be seen in bright city lights.

The concept is applicable globally, but the genesis of Friend-ME was Nissan's research into the aspirations of customers destined to emerge as the world's largest single market segment: the "Balínghòu", which is how around 240 million Chinese born in the 1980s are known. Specifically, Friend-ME addresses the social dynamics of Chinese men in their mid-20s.

For a generation that grew up without siblings, leisure time shared with peers is treasured.

Edgy, but mannered enough to go with the flow

The car asserts an imposing presence - solidity and flowing lines give it an edgy muscularity.

The Nissan Friend-ME features a low and wide stance with short front and rear overhangs giving a chunky, aggressive and sporty impression. The design's energy flows from the 'V-motion' shaped grille and streams through the bonnet and shoulder lines while the headlamps and rear combination lamps are accentuated by its unique boomerang-shaped lighting signature.

The profile of the vehicle completely describes the progressive translation of 'Distilled Da Qi'. The thin and light floating roof and kick-up shape around the C-pillar resonates well and produces sophisticated harmony. Likewise, the Neon Grey exterior colour - specially developed to appeal to tech-savvy youthful tastes - shows its lines to full effect at night.

'Oracle stone' empowers shared adventure
Inside, front and back, driver and passenger, all four seats are separate with the same high-tech style and status, because in this cabin all aboard are peers - equals. And all share the same information as the driver: speed, navigation, fuel remaining - everything.

Empowering all four adventurers is a unique centre console stretching from the dash to between the rear seats - an iconic monolith in an onyx-black finish. Screens visible from each seat blend seamlessly with the surface, only becoming apparent as they display whatever contents the buzz of the moment demands. Whoever finds cool content can transfer it from his mobile to the on-board screens so all can share in the fun.

A dream within reach
Nissan Friend-ME has been carefully designed as a dream within reach of young customers in China. Based on an existing Nissan sedan architecture, it requires a minimum of unique components. The ecologically efficient Pure Drive hybrid power train envisioned for Friend-ME would deliver more than enough zip for city driving.

It is the role-model for the next generation of Opel cars. The groundbreaking concept car makes its world premiere at the 2013 International Motor Show (IAA) in Frankfurt and shows what people can expect from Opel in the future.

Lightness: Styling conveys athletic efficiency rather than pure muscle power
An Opel Monza already made its world premiere at the IAA back in 1977: it was a large coupé with a silky smooth-running six-cylinder engine. The Monza was in production until 1986 and has long since belonged to the elite circle of iconic cars. The new Monza Concept now follows in its wheel-tracks: The beautifully shaped hood with the distinctive center fold continues the tradition of the Monza front with the typical Opel crease. The large boomerang shaped air intakes in front of the wheel arches complement the elegant chrome bar that proudly holds the brand logo.

With the Opel Monza Concept, the designers in Mark Adams' team introduce a new interpretation of the sculptural design that first went into production with the Insignia. Selected distinctive lines, high-precision design and perfect sweeping contours remain the core of the evolving design philosophy called "Sculptural artistry meets German precision." But a new, athletic allure demonstrates the car's overall efficiency. "This is the next bold step along our journey into the future, but at the same time we show that we have established a consistent design in which people can build trust", says Mark Adams, Head of Opel Design.

The sculptural surfaces of the 4.69 meter-long, four seat Monza Concept are modeled after ocean waves lapping on the shore. These flowing surfaces give a look of lightness, dramatically underlined by the side-sills that taper off in front of the rear wheel arches. This unique styling element is inspired by the lean physique and slim waist of a greyhound dog, running as if on tip-toes with powerful elegance. The design of the Monza Concept's body sides enables easy entry and egress for front and rear-seat passengers, while underscoring the prominent, sporty rear wheel arches, which share the same width as the front.

The Opel Monza Concept's roof line is particularly sophisticated - at first it runs in a semicircular form like a classic coupé's, but then just before reaching the tailgate it sweeps slightly upwards. In spite of its sporty look and flat silhouette with a height of just 1.31 meters, there is neither loss of space in the luggage compartment - 500 liters in volume - nor constrained headroom for the passengers. This is due to the fact that the whole cockpit structure is around 15 centimeters lower than in conventional models. Actually, the Monza Concept offers the same airy passenger compartment as a mid-size car.

Efficiency and clarity are also priorities here: when it came to how the displays present information, Opel engineers focused on the best and most personal way to make relevant data available to the driver. The approach was "simplifying the multitude" and so details on the car, the navigation and the smartphone settings and connection only appear when necessary or desired. So drivers can use a wide range of information without being overwhelmed by text or images. This also makes the Monza Concept a model of future HMI (Human-Machine-Interface) systems, as its interior design is based on latest research findings in this field.

The expansive doors provide maximum functionality with spectacular views when opening. They swing up like the outstretched wings of a condor and offer an unobstructed view of the spacious, open passenger cabin (or the surroundings from the inside) thanks to the absence of a B-pillar.

Connectivity: Efficient and well-connected into the automotive future
Efficiency and connectivity are the main focus of development in focus for next generation of Opel models. The Monza Concept offers a fascinating preview of these developments. Once behind the wheel, the Opel Monza Concept whisks you away into a completely new and unique world of instruments and infotainment. The original Monza was also way ahead of its time 35 years ago with a digital display in the cockpit.

The Monza Concept continues innovating with state-of-the-art LED projection technology. Drivers no longer find the conventional individual, separate monitors that display different information; instead, they face a wide, sculpted dashboard that sweeps from door to door, and is used as a single projection surface. Information and decorative elements are displayed on the surface, which the driver can customize according to his needs, taste or mood. A total of 18 LED projectors create a continuous, adaptable multi-functional display. This is a world premiere in an automobile. Already established in the events arena, this technology has caused a sensation at major occasions such as Queen Elizabeth's Jubilee, and Opel designers were first to think of implementing it in a passenger car. The 3D graphics are impressive, and reflect all important functions from precise vehicle and driver information to internet and communication options as well as decorative elements. Both the area displaying information and the background can be individually configured, and operation is via voice control and steering wheel controls.
 
The applies to the comprehensive smartphone connectivity in the Opel Monza Concept. With three worlds of connectivity - called ME, US and ALL - drivers can focus solely on their driving experience, or get in touch with friends and family or even connect to the whole internet community. With ME the infotainment system virtually disconnects the drivers' smartphone and prioritizes the information relevant for the driving experience. US enables the passengers of the Monza Concept to connect with a group of selected people such as friends and family members: these can log-in to the car's infotainment system with their own communication device and exchange information, music and images, chat and make appointments, etc. ALL goes beyond US. It allows the driver and virtually the whole outside world to connect. Drivers can for example spontaneously share their planned route online over a tablet or smartphone so that people can catch a ride with them along the way - enabling a new kind of instant car-sharing. With this trailblazing infotainment and connectivity technology, the Monza Concept shows how far ahead Opel designers and engineers are thinking, so that the next generation of cars make their contribution to a harmonious, connected society

The trendsetting sensor and connectivity technology in the Opel Monza Concept has even more to offer: it gives a preview of the advancements in "Car-to-Car" and "Car-to-X" systems - prerequisites for future autonomous driving and areas in which the research department at Opel is already intensively working. By comprehensively connecting road users, intercommunication can be enhanced, as can safety, because dangerous traffic situations are registered earlier and more accurately than before.

Flexibility: Modular design for powertrain-diversity
The Monza Concept is based on a modular design to allow highest-possible flexibility when selecting a propulsion system. A variety of sustainable powertrains based on increasing electrification of the automobile are conceivable. For the Monza Concept to be displayed at the Frankfurt show, engineers conceived an electric drive with a CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) range extender - a further development of the Ampera's pioneering technology. The new-generation three-cylinder 1.0 SIDI turbo - which also makes its premiere at the IAA - takes over the task as range extender. But it does so with natural gas instead of gasoline, further improving the car's CO2 footprint. With its visionary approach, Opel continues to combine the potential of electric propulsion with the benefits of the internal combustion engine.

The bi-xenon headlamps are just one of the many precious gifts from the Zonda R, and LED daytime running lights are seamlessly integrated in the elliptical shape of the design. The rear bumper integrates with the diffuser and is dominated by an elliptical frame that surrounds the four central exhaust outlets, now becoming a characteristic Pagani element.

The eternity of the element air. Gentle and refined, yet the strength of the wind it is able to erode even the toughest of materials giving birth to distinctive shapes known in nature. Elegant and muscular the Pagani Huayra merges the past, present and future in a timeless interpretation of automotive art.

The engine's systems have been designed and tested to stand up to the most adverse conditions of temperature and performance. The Pagani Huayra has been subjected to the highs of Death Valley and the lows of the Arctic Circle. The two lateral radiators are positioned in the front to guarantee the best cooling efficiency of the intercoolers placed over the cylinder heads. Dry sump lubrication ensures an optimal oil feed to the engine even when the car is subjected to the most extreme lateral accelerations. It also regulates the oil flow so that only the necessary amount of lubricant is actually pumped into the engine from the external oil tank, reducing the friction caused by an excessive volume of lubricant inside the engine sump. An oil/water heat exchanger reduces warm-up times by heating the engine lubricant during cold start and keeps engine coolant and lubricant levels at steady operational temperatures. Extensive weight saving programs led to ingenious yet simple solutions. In order to reduce hoses and connections as much as possible is built directly to the engine. The intercooler covers serve as expansion tanks to the low temperature circuit and the engine coolant circuit. 

The styling of the car was perfected over the course of 5 years to find each line's beginning and end. During this study, eight scale models were created, as well as two 1:1 models, each an evolution of the previous in a never ending quest to perfect the form and refining the substance.

Backbone
The new central monocoque on the Pagani Huayra is an entirely new design made from carbontitanium. However, with the gull wing doors cutting deep into the roof, much research was focused on achieving the highest levels of rigidity through the application of new advanced composite materials and technologies first tested on the Zonda R. The fuel tank is located integrally in the best protected area of the monocoque, behind the driver, reinforced by safety cell made of different composite and ballistic materials. The front and rear CrMo subframes offer an exceptional rigidity-to-weight ratio to allowing the suspensions to work at their best while incorporating an advanced energy absorbing crash structure, ready to protect the occupants in the unlikely event of an impact.

The never ending quest for weight reduction resulted also into the combination of structural and non-structural or aesthetical elements. An example is the integration of all ventilation air ducts into the monocoque's structure, making the use of additional parts and ducts unnecessary.

The result of this attention to detail is a vehicle weighing 1.350 kg making the Pagani Huayra the lightest sportscar in its class.

Heart
Mercedes-AMG provides the heart for the Pagani Huayra. The 60 degree 12 cylinder turbocharged engine with a displacement of 5980 cm3 has been developed not just to meet the strictest technical and quality requirements, but also to give the car its many faces.

The calm and harmony of driving one of the world's most refined GT car is interrupted when the driver calls upon the Pagani Huayra to unleash its 700 horsepower and 1000 Nm of torque. The turbos have been studied to offer immediate response to the slightest throttle input, giving the driver full control over the engine at any rpm and preventing unwanted delays in the delivery of power.

The M158 engine is homologated to meet the strictest environmental regulations, EU5 and LEV2. Despite the increase of power compared to the other Mercedes-AMG V12 engines developed for Pagani, CO2 emissions as well as the fuel consumption have been reduced, to make the Pagani Huayra class leading amongst 12 cylinder sports cars with values that are respective of much smaller vehicles in the market. The two stage fuel supply system features two microprocessor controlled pumps feeding fuel to the engine with the second pump only activated when necessary, thus reducing the energy required to run the fuel pumps and eliminates the waste of excessive fuel being transported and heated in the fuel lines. This efficiency combined with a large 85 liter fuel tank ensure Pagani Huayra's grand touring ability.

As an homage to the decennial tradition of Mercedes-AMG in building world class sports car engines, the M158 displays the historic AMG emblem on the intake manifold alongside the name of the technician that assembled the engine by hand at the Mercedes-AMG headquarters in Affalterbach, Germany.

The Titanium exhaust system has been engineered by MHG-Fahrzeugtechnik and is a direct application of race proven technologies on a high performance road car and the complete exhaust weighs less than 10 kg. Hydroformed junctions are used to reduce backpressure and guarantee a free flow of the exhaust gasses. Titanium guarantees a low weight in the muffler area while Inconel guarantees reliability on the parts of the exhaust more exposed to high temperatures. Careful attention has been paid to the tuning of its sound, which has led to a harmonic rumble at idle speeds with a hint of the power that lies hidden at low speed and a deep thunderous growl of motor and air, reminiscent of an airplane, at high speeds.

Feet
The power and prodigious torque generated by Pagani Huayra's V12 are transferred to the wheels through a transverse sequential seven speed gearbox and a dual plate clutch and the complete gearbox weighs only 96 kg. Keeping the weight of the rear overhang as low as possible has been a priority as we aim for a neutral behavior at the limit. A further benefit of this layout is a better behavior of the car during a rear impact. A dual clutch system was evaluated but ultimately not selected as it would have increased the weight by approximately 70kg, thus negating any minor improvement in shift-time.

Xtrac already supplied the gearbox for the Zonda R and so it was the natural choice for the development of a new high performance gearbox. Xtrac's expertise in motorsports was obvious throughout the design and material selection processes that resulted in the strongest and lightest gearbox possible suitable for road use, with a synchromesh box that offers comfort levels a race car gearbox will never be able to offer.

The suspension geometry has been designed to further enhance the sure-footed nature already present in the Zonda on the longer wheelbase Pagani Huayra. The individual suspension made with forged AvionAl double A-arms have been tested extensively on the Zonda R programme. Incorporated into the wheel hub assemblies are cooling ducts that connect directly to the support brackets, thus extending the reliability and lifespan of the bearings. Pushrod operated adjustable Öhlins shock absorbers keep everything under control and have been optimized for the dynamic requirements of the vehicle.

"Power is nothing without control..."
Pirelli say "Power is nothing without control" and to assure complete control for the driver Pirelli has developed the bespoke P Zero tires, specifically for the Pagani Huayra. The Pirelli engineers were faced with a demanding task, combining road holding for excitement behind the steering wheel and lower rolling resistance to reduce CO2 emissions and fuel consumption. These P Zero tires are built in a dedicated MIRS™ (Modular Integrated Robotized System) facility, dedicated to the production of ultrahigh performance tires and are at the forefront of what is technically possible, suited to top speeds above 370 kph as well as to lateral forces exceeding 1,5 G.

Skin
The aerodynamic concept of the Pagani Huayra is that of a wing. The vehicle can modify the properties of this wing by varying the front ride height, which can be adjusted dynamically, and by adjusting the 4 control flaps on each of the four corners of the car. The goal is to have a neutral vehicle behavior under all conditions and control body roll via aerodynamic means. The behavior of the flaps is managed by a dedicated control unit that is fed information from the ABS and ECU, which pass information about the car's speed, yaw rate, lateral acceleration, steering angle and throttle position.

The system improves aerodynamic efficiency in a variety of driving conditions, where a low drag coefficient is not the determining factor. During braking, for example, the rear flaps and the front suspension are raised to counteract the weight transfer and balance the weight distribution between front and rear axles, allowing a better use of the rear brake force.

Another vital design tenant for the Huayra project was to ensure clean airflow over the body of the car. The shape of the two engine air intakes behind the occupants shoulders are a tribute to the supersonic aircraft of the late 1950s and 1960s, but also allow the motor breath without disrupting the flow. The intake for the gearbox radiator is located between the engine bay window and the carbon clamshell of the rear bonnet, which provides an excellent airflow to the radiator without having a substantial impact on aerodynamic drag. This decision also led to the omission of a rear wing, replaced by the movable flaps.

The flow of air through the car was also carefully studied. The radiators are angled to contribute downforce and provide the best flow for hot air to be extracted. Air from the central radiator is extracted by vents on the front bonnet and trough the front wheelhouses. Air from the side radiators is channeled to ducts cooling the brake discs and wheel hubs. This air blows onto the brakes at a temperature of approximately 50°C warming the brakes up when cold and improving the first bite significantly. Lateral air outlets behind the front wheels generate a negative pressure inside the wheelhouse providing efficient extraction to lower the drag coefficient and generate downforce on the front.

In addition to the downforce generated by the flaps and body, two high negative pressure areas were designed into the shape of the underbody and the diffuser at the rear, thus enhancing the aerodynamic stability and guaranteeing the Pagani Huayra downforce under all circumstances.

Man-machine
As soon as the doors are closed the Pagani Huayra transports the occupants to a new dimension; a world that pleases and surprises the senses. Having everything at arm's length is not close enough for a vehicle with the capabilities of the Pagani Huayra. Consequently, the driver will find all primary functions directly on the steering wheel. The gearshift paddles are mounted directly to the steering wheel so the driver never needs to take his hands off the steering wheel. The seats provide both the comfort to make long trips enjoyable as well as the lateral support required when the g-forces build up on extreme driving.

A Pagani is able to present drivers with state of the art solutions while still drawing on the rich history that precedes it. The ever present emphasis is on a living breathing being rather than a digital one. This can be seen in everything from the leather latches to the toggle switches, but this ethos finds its purest expression in the mechanical aluminum gearlever assembly, a monument to the art of the manual gearshift; progress that does not deny the past. The aluminum dashboard takes inspiration from the most complex swiss watch designs and includes a central Multi-Function Display displaying performance relevant information when SPORT mode is engaged and a trip computer when the COMFORT mode is activated. The aluminum center console is machined from one solid block of aluminum and features a clarinet style array of mechanical switches controlling the HVAC system. The high definition central touchscreen is the heart of the vehicle infotainment system, controlling audio functions, satellite navigation, secondary vehicle functions and Bluetooth phone.

On the road
To this date five prototypes have been built which have been conducting road tests for the past 4 years. Currently, over half a million kilometers have been covered by our prototypes and before entering the US market we will have reached one million test kilometers.

Each prototype has been assigned to a specific development task. At Mercedes-AMG one is used to develop drivability, and another is used for emission development. One car is operated constantly by Bosch Engineering for the application of ABS and advanced stability and performance enhancement systems. Still another vehicle is used for gearbox testing, and general vehicle dynamics development.

Safety
The car complies to the strictest European and American standards in term of safety and pollution regulations. Several studies were conducted to determine the most frequent types of crashes involving high performance cars. The results of these studies have let us to develop specific safety measures not required by law but to guarantee an enhanced protection for the occupants. Several cars have been used to perform these tests.

Legend
Ancient legends of the Aymara tell us of Huayra Tata, god of wind, who commands the breezes, winds, and blizzards that invade the mountains, cliffs and hills of the Andean highlands. It is told that Huayra Tata resides deep in the high peaks and valleys, abandoning them only to demonstrate his power to his wife, Pachamama, goddess of mother earth. With his power Huayra Tata was able to lift the waters from lake Titicaca and rain them down on the fertile Pachamama. When Huayra Tata sleeps, the waters and rivers lay quiet. But the calm before the storm is about to be interrupted...

The new RCZ will go on sale during the 1st quarter of 2013.
Exterior and interior emotion
The rejuvenation of the Peugeot RCZ can be seen first of all through its style. From the initial sketches, the intention was to give this new RCZ a modern style, even more exclusive and unique than the current range.

A completely new front face, sporty and flowing, fully emphasises the power of its rear wings and the sensuous curves of its 'double-bubble' roof. This new synergy between the front and rear gives the bodywork an entirely new expression. The central air intake, now subtle and elegant, is enlivened by two satin chrome bars and provides the effect of strength and refinement.

The new grille is accentuated by a lower air intake which is extended on each side by a unique light signature, visible both day and night. This consists of six LEDs, subtly sculpted in the form of claws, behind a smoked lens which blends into a gloss black surround.

The new Peugeot RCZ adopts an expression with flowing contours, both modern and technical, with new headlamps available in a halogen version with an Aluminium background or a directional Xenon version with a Titanium background.

The new appearance provides the Peugeot RCZ with a new posture: well poised as well as having a unique identity, with a combination of enhanced power and sensuous expression. The interior has evolved to enhance features in detail, in particular:
  • the gear lever surround which is now lacquered black,
  • on GT models the door trim pads are trimmed with leather inserts, and two aluminium inserts adorn the dashboard / centre console.

Real everyday practicality
The Peugeot RCZ has always been very practical, with a generous volume boot for its category, having a capacity of 384 litres, to which are added storage compartments under its floor (more than 30 litres extra). Folding the back of the two additional rear seats increases the maximum carrying capacity of the vehicle to 760 litres.

Fashionable exclusivity
The rejuvenation of the Peugeot RCZ is also expressed through an enhanced option range, consistent with its exclusive positioning, which allows each customer to create 'their own' vehicle character, making it a unique object reflecting their personality and taste.

Exterior personalisation
The new RCZ has many personalisation components:
  • A new lacquered black grille bars option, instead of the standard satin chrome bars, to give this new Peugeot RCZ a different face;
  • Three roof arch colours: Aluminium, Sand or the new Matt Black;
  • A new 'Black Pack' groups together the new Matt Black arches and black grille bars with black brake callipers, and black exterior mirrors - components which are all also available separately;
  • Three new types of bodywork Decals: a wide gloss black central stripe crossing the vehicle, grey and red lateral stripes on the body sills bearing the word 'RCZ', a silver grey off-set stripe crossing the vehicle from front to back;
  • Two Carbon Roof options with a Matt or Satin finish;

The range of colours consists of eight options, two of which are new; to the Opal White, Pearlescent White, Nera Black, Mercury Grey, Charcoal Grey and Dolphin Blue, are added new colours: Bistre and Moroccan Red.

Driving sensations and precision
Expressing all of Peugeot's expertise in terms of road holding, the Peugeot RCZ takes the requirement of driving with precision and obtaining sensations to the highest level for the Marque, to intensify all of the driver's senses.

It benefits from tuned suspension and wheels originating from Platform Two (pseudo MacPherson front suspension, rear suspension with a deformable cross-member).

Increasing the effectiveness of this assembly, it has a particularly low ride height and centre of gravity, widened track and generous tyre choice (18" or 19" wheels).

The active rear aero spoiler also contributes to this performance, deployed in two positions according to the speed of the vehicle to ensure aerodynamics and stability.

Finally, when the Peugeot RCZ is fitted with the THP 200 engine the front suspension incorporates bigger hubs and a special lower bracing bar to enhance road handling, making it more agile and aiding cornering stability.

Sound System technology
The 'acoustic signature of the engine' has also been enhanced aided by 'Sound System' technology (standard on the Sport THP 156 manual, and Sport and GT models with the THP 200 petrol engine models). It amplifies the characteristic sound of the engine through a controlled diaphragm that resonates and the vibration noise is louder as the revs of the engine rise during acceleration, while being less pronounced with more regular driving.

New standard or optional equipment
The new Peugeot RCZ is now fitted as standard, with an acoustic windscreen and a Visibility Pack consisting of automatic wipers, automatic headlamps, electrochromatic interior mirror, guide-me-home lighting and approach lighting on unlocking.

Audio and Sat Nav options on Peugeot RCZ are enhanced with the availability of Peugeot Connect Navigation (RT6). First introduced on 508, it incorporates:
  • navigation with large 7" screen (WVGA high resolution 800 x 480 pixels) offering a perspective view mode and a European map (stored in the internal memory);
  • a CD player on the control panel, MP3 compatible;
  • a three-tuner radio with two aerials, reception of RDS-TMC traffic info (TrafficMaster in the United Kingdom);
  • a Bluetooth connection for the hands-free telephone function and audio streaming;
  • a Jack and USB socket in the central armrest.

Other innovation offered on the Peugeot RCZ, the RT6 system now incorporates the Arkamys software which processes the digital audio signal to recreate a natural sound stage. The quality of the sound no longer suffers from the restrictions of the location of the speakers in the doors (which often results in sounds in the lower side areas): the instruments and voices are more harmoniously positioned in the space, facing the occupants, at windscreen level. This system also provides the option of directing the sound for the driver only or for all the passengers.

And coming soon… the 'RCZ R'
Striving to be at the top of this exclusive, dynamic and sporty range, the 'RCZ R Concept' is unveiled at the Paris Motor Show. In a matt black and copper livery it echoes another Concept Car unveiled at the show: the 'Onyx' supercar.

The 'RCZ R Concept' previews a future version of enhanced sportiness, which will be introduced to the range at the end of 2013.

The Peugeot Sport and PSA Group Development teams are working together to adapt technology originating from the world of motor sport to make a production ready vehicle and once again turn a dream into reality.

Its new 1.6-litre THP 260bhp engine make it the most powerful production model in Peugeot's history. A specific power of more than 160bhp/litre, among the highest in the world for a production vehicle, and CO2 emissions of approximately 155g/km, position it in a range of new high efficiency. Each of the two new Cabriolets has the same engine as its Carrera Coupé equivalent. The rear of the 911 Carrera Cabrio houses a 3.4-litre flat engine generating 350 hp (257 kW) of power driving the rear wheels through a seven-gear manual transmission. The open-top Porsche 911 Carrera S Cabriolet comes with a 3.8-litre six-cylinder engine developing 400 hp (294 kW) and also a seven-gear manual transmission featured as standard. That means that the open-top 911s as well are distancing themselves even further from the competition in terms of efficiency; both models consume less than ten litres of fuel per 100 kilometres (NEDC). The Cabriolets as well have the Porsche Doppelkupplungsgetriebe (PDK) available as an optional extra, delivering even lower fuel consumption and shorter acceleration times.

With the longer wheelbase compared with the predecessor model, the wider front track and the new electro-mechanical power steering, the new Cabriolets offer even sportier driving characteristics, greater precision and agility. Depending on model, there are other standard or optional active control systems available as well that further enhance the driving dynamics.

The 911 Carrera Cabriolet will be launched in Germany on March 3, 2012. The prices for the Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet start in Germany with 100,532 Euros, the Porsche 911 Carrera S Cabriolet starts with 114,931 Euros including value-added tax in both cases.

Open-top lightweight 911 with new design language
The new Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet's design echoes its predecessor's styling while developing an entirely new design language: thanks to a longer wheelbase combined with shorter overhangs, the vehicle makes a compact, made to measure impression. A vehicle height reduced by a further four millimetres (three millimetres in the case of the 911 Carrera S) compared with the 911 Carrera Coupé strikes a distinctly sporty tone in outward appearance.

As a result of the 52 millimetre wider front track compared with the predecessor, the new 911 Carrera Cabriolet has an even more solid stance on the road. The vehicle's 61 millimetre greater width at the front creates an even more harmonious vehicle silhouette. Larger air intakes underneath the redeveloped front lights emphasise the striking appearance. Together with the new Bi-Xenon headlights, they give the new Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet a distinctive face.

The rear end echoes the sporty looks of the car's front end. It is characterised in particular by the new wider rear spoiler below the engine lid air intakes. The outer edge of the lid is part of the continuous design edge, which cleverly emphasises the vehicle's width. The compact dimensions of the redeveloped top system when stowed enabled the space above the engine to be used to best effect. The result: an elegantly flat and harmonious rear section.

Body: even stiffer and up to 60 kilograms lighter
The innovative lightweight-body of the 911 Carrera family was redesigned from the ground up for Coupé and Cabriolet alike. That means that the open-top 911 and fixed-roof model share both the weight advantages of the aluminium-steel body and the significantly improved rigidity, complemented by local reinforcement elements. It was possible to improve dynamic torsional rigidity, which has a critical influence on comfort, by 18 per cent in the new Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet models. Notwithstanding the 911 Carrera Cabriolet's increased dimensions, all the measures as a whole have yielded significant weight reductions compared with the predecessor models.

Refined ambiance with numerous customisation options
The open-top 911 Carrera models' interior equipment largely follows the interior concept of the Coupé. As before, a central design element is the centre console rising up to the front. It ensures improved ergonomics by closer integration of driver and front passenger.

The new operating concept makes controlling the vehicle's central functions uncomplicated and intuitive. The new Cabriolets also offer greater comfort in the rear. For example, the shorter installation length of the new roll-over protection system creates more legroom compared with the predecessor model.

The dashboard is classically laid out. The 911's trademark five round instruments provide all the important information about the vehicle's operating state. The new 4.8-inch, high-resolution, TFT colour screen in the instrument cluster to the right of the rev counter contains extensive configurable display options for vehicle status, audio, telephone, navigation, map display, on-board computer and tyre pressure monitoring. With the optional Sport Chrono Package, a so-called G-Force display for showing longitudinal and lateral acceleration can be accessed on the multi-function screen. Vehicles with manual transmission also feature a shift assistant display for performance-optimised driving. The driving light assistant featured as standard automatically switches from daytime running lights to dipped beam as dusk falls and, for example, when traversing tunnels.

Sports seat system with greater range of adjustment as standard
The Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet's interior is rounded off by the sports seat system, featured as standard, with electrically adjustable backrest angle and height. Over and above the standard seat functionality, the optional sports seats with fully-electrical 14-way adjustment offer electrically-powered fore and aft adjustment, seat cushion angle, seat cushion height adjustment and four-way lumbar adjustment. The 18-way Adaptive Sports Seats Plus and prominent seat bolsters, also available as an option, feature additional adjustment of the seat cushion and seat back bolsters for optimal side support in any driving situation. Both versions include the Memory Package and electrical steering column adjustment. In conjunction with optional heated seats, seat ventilation is available for all sports seat versions.

Sound Package Plus featured as standard, top-of-the-range sound systems from Burmester® and BOSE® upon request

The new CDR-31 audio system, combined with the Sound Package Plus, featured as standard, provides acoustic information and entertainment. Porsche has teamed up with Burmester® to develop a special system for the 911 Carrera as the top-of-the-range sound system offering. The experience of the multiple prize-winning systems in the Panamera and Cayenne has been harnessed to achieve total output and sound quality unprecedented in the sports car segment. The system comprises twelve individually controllable loudspeakers, including an active so-called subwoofer built into the bodyshell with 140 millimetre speaker diameter and integrated 300 watt Class D output stage; complemented by 12 amplifier channels with a total output of more than 800 watts.

The BOSE® Surround Sound System continues to be offered as an option. It also features twelve loudspeakers, including a 100 watt active subwoofer built into the bodyshell with Class D output stage and 200 millimetre speaker diameter as well as eight amplifier channels, ensuring an impressive aural experience. This delivers an overall output of 445 watts.

Innovative lightweight roof with Coupé characteristics
The attention-getter with the 911 Carrera Cabriolet is the unique and all-new panel bow top. Thanks to the innovative technology, it has been possible for the first time to achieve the previously unachievable Coupé-like roof curvature of the closed top, which offers aerodynamic advantages into the bargain. Moreover, the weight of the entire top remains on a par with the predecessor model, notwithstanding the increased length and significantly enhanced comfort.

The top can be opened and closed in approximately 30 seconds respectively - as in the case of the predecessor up to a speed of 50 km/h. It is operated by means of a button on the centre console or, from the outside, by means of the remote control.

Porsche has traditionally set the highest standards for the 911 top. That is why the new folding roof as well - as with every previous 911 - is a completely standalone development. The first distinctive feature is apparent at a glance: the fabric roof is tensioned in an elegant arc from the front window frame to the convertible top compartment with styling that is almost identical to that of the Coupé. No roof bows are discernible under the fabric nor are there any sections that interrupt the flowing design. Even the heatable rear window is virtually flush-fitting thanks to a new technique and is integrated with the cover with only the most discreet of seams.

Porsche new development: Lightweight magnesium panel bow top
Critical to this shape, previously unachievable with fabric tops, is the innovative design as a panel bow top. This entails the entire fabric top - with the exception of the side panels - being tensioned over a rigid roof surface comprising four directly abutting individual segments. The four elements are the front roof frame, two panel bows and the rear window, the frame of which is made of magnesium, like the other segments.

With the top closed, the occupants enjoy a level of climate and noise comfort that comes closer to that of the Coupé than ever before. For example, the exterior material is underlaid over its entire area with an insulating mat. On the inside, the roof segments are covered with dimensionally stable roof linings that convey a comfortable interior feeling. The side panels as well are entirely clad with fabric so that with the hood closed, no technical components are visible any longer. The headroom as well is also broadly the same as inside the Coupé.

New: Fully integrated electric wind deflector
A further innovation in the Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet is the built-in electric wind deflector. That makes fitting and removal a thing of the past. The new wind deflector is attached to a U-shaped tensioning bracket, which is fully integrated into the rear area when retracted, thereby not encroaching on the available space on the rear seats. At the push of a button, this bracket deploys within two seconds, in the process unrolling a mesh that is tensioned at right angles by a second movable deflection bracket behind the front seat armrests. The wind deflector can be deployed up to a speed of 120 km/h.

Sportier, more comfortable suspension
The complete redesign of the suspension has a knock-on effect on the new 911 Carrera Cabriolet's sportiness and comfort as well. In both models, the 100 millimetres longer wheelbase ensures significantly greater driving stability at high speed.

The wider front track width, 46 millimetres for the 911 Carrera Cabriolet and 52 millimetres for the 911 Carrera S Cabriolet, further improves driving stability and agility when cornering. In addition - depending on model featured as standard or as an optional extra - the enhanced Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM), the new Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control, the completely revamped electro-mechanical power steering, Porsche Torque Vectoring (PTV), the modified braking system and new wheels and tyres ensure driving performance of the highest order.

Electro-mechanical steering with Porsche's trademark precision and feedback
The new 911 Carrera generation sees Porsche's first use of electro-mechanical power steering, which is vastly superior to every other system on the market in terms of its efficiency and precision. The fundamental advantage compared with hydraulic power steering is the reduction in fuel consumption by at least 0.1 l/100 km. Additional new functions further enhance comfort and safety. Specific feedback is passed to the driver through the steering wheel and negative or unnecessary influences are filtered out.

Faster and safer cornering: Porsche Torque Vectoring
In the new 911, Porsche Torque Vectoring (PTV) ensures yet greater agility, featured as standard in the open-top 911 Carrera S and available as an optional extra for the Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet. The system is available in two versions: the PTV version with mechanical differential lock when twinned with manual transmission and in PDK vehicles as PTV Plus with electronically controlled, fully variable differential lock. In a nutshell, PTV/PTV Plus improves the vehicle's steering behaviour and precision by means of precisely modulated braking interventions on the inside rear wheel when being driven in a highly dynamic style.

Option: Sport Chrono Package accentuates all sporty 911 characteristics
All new 911 Carrera models feature a Sport button as standard. It enables the driver to choose between more comfortable or fuel-efficient tuning and a sportier setup. The optional Sport Chrono Package with additional Sport Plus button makes for an even wider spread between a sporty setup and driving comfort in everyday use. In addition to refining all the relevant systems and functions for maximum performance, for the first time the Sport Chrono Package features controlled, dynamic engine mounts. The magneto-rheological engine mounts have been enhanced based on the technology introduced in the 911 GT3 and optimised for the new 911 Carrera.

A critical contribution to the impressive performance enhancement of the new 911 generation is made by Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control (PDCC), available as an option for the 911 Carrera S. Equipped with this system, the open-top model as well achieves a new level of lateral acceleration and handling. The vehicle's lateral inclination, for example when entering a bend, when cornering and changing lanes at speed is almost completely offset by the variable stabiliser system up to the maximum lateral acceleration.

Porsche Intelligent Performance: more power, exemplary low fuel consumption
The production models of the open-top 911 traditionally have the same engines as the Coupés. This has not changed with the new generation. But in return the differences with the predecessor models have become all the greater: developed in accordance with the principle of Porsche Intelligent Performance, fuel consumption fell and output increased.

Courtesy of enhancements within the engine itself, accompanied by the new functions thermal management, on-board electrical system recuperation and auto start/stop function, the new models are up to 15 per cent more economical and up to 15 hp more powerful. In short: even as a Cabriolet, the 911 Carrera remains, by an even greater margin, the benchmark for efficient performance among premium sports cars.

Intelligent efficiency: Electrical system recuperation, thermal management, coasting
To increase efficiency, the boxer engines feature electrical system recuperation and map-controlled cooling water thermal management.These measures alone reduce fuel consumption based on the NEDC by 0.45 l/100 km. But it doesn't stop there: Porsche is introducing the auto start/stop function for all transmission variants in the new 911 Carrera generation - including for the manual transmission. The occasional short interruptions are having a big effect: the automatic engine cut-off when the vehicle is stationary is saving 0.6 litres of fuel for each 100 kilometres driven based on the NEDC.

The principle of only drawing on engine power when it is actually needed has resulted in a new sports car function in the new 911 Carrera with PDK transmission: coasting. In principle, coasting is nothing other than the car rolling along without power, and as a result you can achieve fuel consumption for a limited distance equivalent to when the engine is idling. In practice that means fuel savings of up to one litre per 100 kilometres with a forward-thinking driving style in everyday driving.

Sound Symposer for even more intense acoustic driving fun
The new Porsche 911 Carrera generation offers the driver even sportier driving pleasure, sound-wise as well. And that not just with the top down: the Sound Symposer, featured as standard in both models, ensures an even meatier and sportier engine sound in the interior and is controlled by means of the Sport button, featured as standard.

The list also includes the dCi 75 and dCi 90 diesel engines, the fuel consumption and CO2 emissions of which have come down to 3.9 litres/100km and 103g/km respectively.

Stunning design, outstanding performance and state-of-the-art technology - the new SEAT Ibiza Cupra represents the essence of the SEAT brand like no other model. With its compact dimensions and high level of functionality, the new Ibiza Cupra delivers sporting performance for every day, accompanied by a truly impressive set of figures. From a standing start, the Cupra completes the sprint to 100 km/h in just 6.9 seconds and goes on to a top speed of 228 km/h, making the SEAT Ibiza Cupra one of the most dynamic models in its class. The Drive
With its output of 132 kW (180 hp) at 6,200 rpm and torque of 250 Newton metres from 2,000 to 4,500 rpm, the state-of-the-art TSI engine in the new SEAT Ibiza Cupra guarantees performance that is effortless and instantly enjoyable.

The 1.4 TSI power unit is a compact piece of hi-tech. Direct injection, plus dual charged induction by a supercharger and a turbocharger give the engine its committed sporty character. For both driver and passengers, the unconditional sporting spirit of the new SEAT Ibiza Cupra is clearly audible: a special sound actuator boosts the suitably powerful engine tone.

One technical highlight is the complementary interaction of the supercharger and turbocharger. The belt-driven supercharger increases torque output from very low down the rev range, while the exhaust turbocharger (with wastegate regulation) kicks in at higher revs. A magnetic clutch integrated within the water pump actuates the supercharger as required, while the fresh air supply to the supercharger and turbocharger is regulated by a control flap. The two chargers are connected in series and, at engine speeds of up to 3,500 rpm, both are active. At higher engine speeds, the turbocharger takes over full responsibility for forcing air into the engine.

The far-reaching optimisation of the engine management system, contributed to significant improvements in performance and efficiency compared with the previous model. The dash from 0 to 100 km/h takes just 6.9 seconds, while top speed now stands at 228 km/h. The new SEAT Ibiza Cupra consumes an average of just 5.9 litres of fuel per 100 kilometres - equating to CO2 emissions of 139 grams per kilometre. Compared with the previous model, this represents a reduction in fuel consumption of half a litre. 6.9 seconds, 5.9 litres - these figures epitomise SEAT's commitment to efficient performance.

The Transmission
The 1.4 TSI leaves the production line mated to the seven-speed dual-clutch transmission (DSG). Its extremely short shift times are perfectly suited to the Ibiza Cupra's sporty character, while the efficient set-up of the individual gear ratios is reflected in the low fuel consumption figures.

The compact dual-clutch transmission weighs in at just 70 kilograms and offers clear benefits in terms of dynamics. The superfast gear changes are completed with no perceptible interruption in drive. The substantial engine power is sent to the dual clutch via the crankshaft and a dual-mass flywheel. The pressure in the two dry clutches is controlled hydraulically. While one clutch serves the uneven gear ratios, the other is responsible for the even ratios and reverse gear.

The perfect combination of comfortable and dynamic gear change is thanks to the intelligent control electronics and the two clutches, as well as two drive and three input shafts. The DSG transmission is ready at all times to engage the next highest gear, resulting in instantaneous gear changes. A complete gear shift - e.g. from third to fourth gear - takes place in just a few hundredths of a second, meaning there is no loss of engine boost pressure, resulting in smooth, linear acceleration.

As an alternative to fully automatic mode, the seven-speed DSG can also be operated via the gear lever on the centre tunnel or with the new, standard shift paddles behind the steering wheel, a uniquely enjoyable feature for the SEAT Ibiza Cupra.

The Running Gear
To deliver the dynamics of a high-performance athlete, the new SEAT Ibiza Cupra comes equipped with a finely tuned sports suspension, the XDS electronic transverse differential lock and the ESP electronic stability program.

The SEAT Ibiza Cupra's sports suspension is set up for maximum agility and precision and is based on the proven fundamental layout of MacPherson-strut front axle and torsion-beam rear suspension. The stiffer mapping of the shock absorbers and the specially adapted springs (ride height 10 mm lower) give the compact car considerably less body roll, while also lowering its centre of gravity. Both have a positive impact on cornering dynamics.

The sports suspension makes the turn-in characteristics of the new SEAT Ibiza Cupra even more agile than those of its predecessor. Yet, at the same time, detail improvements to the axle bearing set-up and the optimised breakaway force on the shock absorbers mean that the new Cupra is far more gently sprung, resulting in a considerable increase in comfort over long distances.

The XDS electronic transverse differential lock reduces the tendency to understeer and improves handling, particularly during fast cornering. The system maintains traction by applying a targeted braking impulse to the inside wheel in the event that it loses grip and starts to spin.

The ESP electronic stability program with hill-start assist, anti-slip regulation (ASR) and engine drag torque control (MSR) is part of the standard safety package in the Ibiza Cupra.

The standard-fit, high-performance brake system (dia: 288 mm front, 230 mm rear) provides the new SEAT Ibiza Cupra with ample deceleration at all times. Also available as an option are AP Racing performance brakes with SEAT Sport logos.

On-the-road, the Cupra weighs 1184 kilograms (minus driver) and runs on exclusive 17-inch alloy wheels with low-profile 215/40 R17 87V tyres fitted as standard.

The Design
The stunning design shows the sporty character of the new SEAT Ibiza Cupra at first glance. The three-door coupé has a muscular and powerful stance, while the redesigned face with its broad grille and very powerful air intakes adds emphasis to the vehicle's breadth and solidity - and provides a highly visible indication of the Ibiza Cupra's amazing performance.

The angular line of the headlamps is typical of the new SEAT design language, while fitting perfectly into the Ibiza's sculptural form. The bi-xenon lights are standard equipment and their sophisticated design offers a clear view of the attention to detail that is standard practice at SEAT. The LED daytime running lights pick up the line of the headlamps to deliver a unique light signature, just like the rear lights, which also feature LED technology. From a technical standpoint, the bi-xenon headlamps deliver excellent illumination of the road ahead. The cornering lights are integrated into the large fog lamps.

The side view of the dynamic compact car is brought to life by its sharp lines and edges. The accentuated rear shoulders and the exclusive 17-inch alloy wheels emphasise the sporty look. The black gloss exterior mirrors set a clear contrast to the paintwork of the SEAT Ibiza Cupra. The Ibiza Cupra also comes as standard with tinted side windows.

At the muscular rear end, a broad bumper frames the substantial, matt-black diffuser with the trapezoidal tailpipe fairing. The Cupra lettering and logo on the rear hatch is a confident statement of the special role played by the compact sports car as the new benchmark in its class.

The Interior
The emotional power of the exterior design is also reflected in the interior of the SEAT Ibiza Cupra. The cockpit displays an impressive array of sporty details - while remaining clear and intuitive to operate. The outstanding feeling of quality and the precision craftsmanship underscore SEAT's attention to detail. All of the Ibiza Cupra's touch points have been given special treatment, to enrich the interaction with the car.

The new sports steering wheel with the Cupra logo on the lower of the three spokes also features pale grey stitching and black glossy inserts in the spokes. Just behind the rim are the perfectly positioned shift paddles for the DSG gearbox and just beyond the wheel are the clear, easy-to-read instruments featuring a sporty design which is unique to the top model in the Ibiza line-up. The pedals are aluminium in appearance, with high friction rubber contact points.

The exclusive Cupra sports seats are optionally available in two-tone leather. They provide excellent grip and support thanks to their generously proportioned side cushions and ergonomic form. The seats feature distinctive pale grey inserts that run along the edge of the seat base and the back support and even up to the head-rest. The inner trim of the doors also features a pale grey insert, bringing a sophisticated and tasteful appearance to the interior.

The SEAT Ibiza Cupra comes to market with a completely new entertainment system. As well as being recently re-designed with a clear interface for easy, intuitive operation, the powerful audio system can be complemented by the innovative SEAT Portable System. The surprisingly inexpensive solution with a touch-sensitive, 5-inch screen is perfectly integrated into the vehicle electronics system - and at the same time, easy to remove at any time for mobile use in one simple step.

The many and varied functions of the SEAT Portable System include the GPS navigation function, the hands-free phone system (Bluetooth) with voice control and wireless audio streaming (Bluetooth). The easy-to-operate in-car computer provides the driver with an extensive assortment of information. If desired the display also shows the current engine speed and coolant temperature. A dedicated Cupra screen greets the driver every time the system is started. Useful extras include an electronic "note" feature and the "Highbeam" function, which provides additional interior illumination on exiting the car at night. The screen can also show visual warnings issued to indicate when a door has been left open.

The SEAT Portable System is part of an ongoing development programme. Additional functions will be available in the Spring. These include the option of online access via a mobile phone connected to the system. This will facilitate access to up-to-the-minute traffic, traffic enforcement warnings, weather bulletins and enable local search functions.

The Equipment
The new SEAT Ibiza Cupra leaves the assembly line with an extensive range of equipment. The standard package includes bi-xenon headlamps with LED daytime running lights, as well as LED lights at the rear. Air-conditioning provides comfortable temperatures, while the 17-inch alloy wheels, exclusive sports seats and steering wheel flattened along the bottom combine with the Cupra-specific exterior design to create a sporty overall look.
