Subaru Forester US-Version, 2014

  •  Subaru Forester US-Version, 2014

The 2014 Subaru Forester 2.5i model will be available in base, Premium, Limited and top-line Touring versions. The turbocharged Forester 2.0XT will be offered in the Premium and Touring versions. The Forester 2.5i models are powered by a 170-horsepower 2.5-liter 4-cylinder BOXER engine that debuted in the outgoing model.

Subaru of America, Inc. introduced the all-new 2014 Subaru Forester, the fourth generation of its popular all-wheel drive crossover SUV, at the 2012 Los Angeles Auto Show. The 2014 Forester debuts a bolder exterior design and roomier interior, along with improved performance and higher fuel economy across the line. The 2014 Forester arrives in Subaru dealerships in the spring of 2013.

The all-new five-passenger 2014 Subaru Forester is a total re-design of the acclaimed crossover SUV that's built a strong reputation for safety, performance, dependability and versatility. With virtually the same footprint as the outgoing model, the 2014 Forester expands its comfort and utility. A new 250-horsepower 2.0-liter direct-injection turbocharged BOXER® engine leads the line, which will also include models powered by a 2.5-liter naturally aspirated BOXER engine.

As with all previous Forester models, the 2014 version comes standard with Subaru Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive, a distinction from competitive models that come with front-wheel drive as standard and offer all-wheel drive as an extra-cost option. The 2014 Forester will jump to the head of its segment in all-wheel drive fuel economy, with the 2.5i model achieving manufacturer's fuel economy estimates of 24 mpg city / 32 mpg highway / 27 mpg combined. Those figures compare well with competitors that feature front-wheel drive.

Playing major roles in the Subaru Forester models' increased fuel economy are a new six-speed manual transmission in the 2.5i models and an available Lineartronic® continuously variable transmission (CVT). On the 2.0XT models, the CVT is standard and offers 6-speed and 8-speed manual shift modes with steering wheel paddle switches. High-line 2014 Forester models equipped with the CVT also feature new Hill Descent Control and a new X-Mode control feature, which provides extra control in certain driving conditions.

The Subaru Forester's four-wheel independent suspension system delivers agile handling and a highly compliant ride quality. The 8.7 inches of ground clearance for all 2014 Forester models is higher than for many crossovers and SUVs, yet the Forester maintains a comfortably low step-in height, enhanced in the 2014 model with side sills that are 2 inches lower than before.

Forester debuts new amenities and conveniences, along with more upscale luxury features on high-line models. All but the base 2.5i model now have a standard rear vision camera and color multi-function display. New available features include a power rear gate with automatic close and Keyless Access and Start and the EyeSight driver assist system. The available navigation system features smartphone integration with Aha® smartphone integration features. The top-line Touring models come standard with a navigation system and 440-watt harman/kardon® audio system.

Bold Design With Added Function
The 2014 Subaru Forester preserves the optimal blend of SUV capability and car-like ride and handling that have made this compact SUV one of Subaru's best-selling models since the brand introduced it for model year 1998. The 2014 Forester combines evolutionary design themes with sharply defined new details in an all-new body. The "hawkeye" headlights and a slightly taller, hexagonal shape grille anchor the bolder front-end design. The 2.0XT models get an exclusive aggressive looking sport design front bumper, along with a one-piece mesh style grille and, on the 2.0XT Touring, chrome-rimmed fog light bezels.

All 2014 Subaru Forester models feature black side cladding and body-color door handles. The sporty Forester design for 2014 incorporates several functional benefits. All models use an aluminum hood for lighter weight. The A-pillar is moved forward compared to the outgoing model, yet Subaru also improved forward visibility, which was already a Forester strong point. New partitioned front door side glass, along with door-mounted mirrors, help improve side visibility and reduce potential sources of wind noise. On the Forester 2.0XT models, the hood scoop used to supply air to the previous Subaru Forester turbo model's intercooler has been replaced by under-hood ducting, which also enhances forward visibility.

The Subaru Forester 2.5i models have a single exhaust outlet, while the 2.0XT versions feature a dual outlet exhaust with stainless steel tips. All 2014 Forester models feature a new low-oil level indicator.

Increased Comfort and Versatility
The 2014 Forester is built on a new platform featuring a 0.9-inch longer wheelbase (now 103.9 inches). Vehicle length is increased by just 1.4 in. and width by 0.6-in., yet thanks to Subaru's mastery of efficient vehicle packaging, the 2014 Forester offers notable gains in roominess. The efficient packaging also pays dividends in maneuverability - long a Subaru Forester hallmark - evidenced by the vehicle's tight 34.8-ft. turning circle.

The all-new interior design capitalizes on the increased roominess by also emphasizing a feeling of greater spaciousness. A longer distance between the front occupants and instrument panel, along with horizontal design elements, give the Forester a more open feel. All models feature a standard tilt/telescoping steering column.

The new front seats use a new type of cushion spring array to enhance long-distance comfort. The 2.5i Limited and Touring models feature a reclining rear seatback and a rear seat fold-down center armrest with dual cupholders. The front seat hip point is 1.1-in. higher than before, and the driver's seat height adjustment offers an additional 0.6-in. of range, along with 1.3-in. greater fore-aft seat cushion adjustment range.

The longer wheelbase and specially shaped front seat backs have increased Forester's rear seat legroom to 41.7 inches, up from 38.0 inches, to now rival that of some larger vehicles. Along with increasing legroom, Subaru improved comfort and room for the center rear seat passenger by raising the hip point by 1.4 inch, lowering the center tunnel by 2.6-in. and by reducing the length of the front center console by nearly four inches.

Combined with increased hip and shoulder room, those changes give the 2014 Subaru Forester exemplary three-across rear seating comfort. Wider-opening rear doors aid ingress/egress, and also help make it easier to install a child seat. Tether anchors located on the rear of the seatback also help make it easier to install a child seat in the 2014 Forester.

Aided by a flatter load floor, maximum rear cargo area capacity with the standard 60/40 split rear seats folded is increased to 74.7 cu. ft., up from 68.3 cu. ft. in the outgoing Forester. The 2014 models with the power moon roof see a cargo area increase to 68.5 cu. ft., up from 63.0 cu. ft.

New Powertrains Boost Performance and Economy
The Subaru Forester 2.5i models continue with the double-overhead-cam (DOHC) 2.5-liter FB series BOXER engine that debuted in the outgoing model. This engine produces 170 horsepower and 174 lb.-ft. of torque. Matched to either the standard 6-speed manual transmission or the CVT, the 2.5-liter engine gives the Forester excellent response in everyday driving, with emphasis on low and mid-range torque.

The 2014 Subaru Forester 2.0XT models use a new turbocharged variant of the FA-Series BOXER engine that debuted in the Subaru BRZ sports car. In the 2014 Forester 2.0XT models, the 2.0-liter, four-cylinder BOXER uses a combination of direct fuel injection, high compression (10.6:1), Subaru Dual Active Valve Control System (D-AVCS) and turbocharging with an intercooler to achieve outstanding performance and high efficiency. The Forester 2.0XT engine produces 250 horsepower at 5,600 rpm, accompanied by a broad torque curve that peaks at 258 lb.-ft. over a 2,000-4,800 rpm engine speed range.

The CVT in the 2.5i models and high-torque CVT in the 2.0XT models use new adaptive control. Based on vehicle inputs received by the transmission control module, pulley gear ratios are continually optimized based on driving preferences and road conditions. The 2.0XT models feature paddle shift controls for the CVT. The 2.5i models with the CVT include a driver-selectable low shift mode, which can provide additional engine braking when traveling down a grade.

SI-DRIVE: More Control over Performance
Exclusive to the 2.0XT models, Subaru Intelligent Drive (SI-DRIVE) is an engine performance management system that allows the driver to tailor the vehicle's driving characteristics by choosing from among three selectable modes - "Intelligent," "Sport" and "Sport Sharp" - using a switch on the steering wheel.

With Intelligent mode selected, SI-DRIVE provides a more relaxed throttle response curve, making it useful for commuting in traffic, for example. "Sport" mode provides quick throttle responses and powerful, linear acceleration and also accesses a 6-speed manual mode for the CVT, using steering wheel paddle shift control switches. In "Sport Sharp" mode, SI-DRIVE modifies the engine's electronic throttle mapping to deliver even quicker throttle response and provides an 8-speed manual mode for the CVT.

Agile Handling, Smooth Ride
The 2014 Subaru Forester builds on the reputation for agility and smooth ride quality firmly established by the previous Forester models. The front strut suspension and double-wishbone rear suspension have been retuned for the new model, and on all versions, the rear suspension gains pillow ball joint mounts for the lateral links. The 2.0XT models deliver even sharper handling responses from a sport-tuned suspension, with front springs 10-percent stiffer and rear springs 20-percent stiffer than those on the 2.5i models, along with exclusive chassis reinforcements. In addition, the 2.0XT models use larger brakes than the 2.5i models, with ventilated rotors front and rear.

For all 2014 Forester models, a new Electric Power Assisted Steering (EPAS) system contributes to fuel efficiency and also provides excellent feedback to the driver. The Subaru Forester 2.5i base model now rides on standard 17-inch steel wheels, up from the 16-inch wheels used on the previous model. The 2.5i Premium has standard 17-inch alloy wheels, and 2.0XT models exclusively use 18-inch alloy wheels with a machine finish.

Standard Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive with Off-Pavement Control Systems
The 2014 Forester models feature two versions of Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive, each of which continuously powers all four wheels and can transfer more power to the wheels with the best grip. Both versions of Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive integrate the Vehicle Dynamics Control (VDC) system to further enhance all-weather stability and traction, but they do not rely on VDC to distribute power, as some other AWD systems do.

Subaru Forester 2.5i models equipped with the 6-speed manual transmission utilize a viscous-coupling locking center differential that distributes power 50:50, transferring more power to the wheels with the best traction should slippage occur.

In all Forester models with the Lineartronic CVT, an electronically managed continuously variable transfer clutch actively manages power distribution based on acceleration, deceleration, cornering and available traction. This Active All-Wheel Drive system automatically transfers more power to the wheels with the best grip should slippage occur. In the 2014 Subaru Forester, the Active All-Wheel Drive system has been enhanced for more confident vehicle control when turning on slippery surfaces or changing lanes at highway speeds. Taking input signals for steering wheel angle, yaw rate, and lateral acceleration from the Vehicle Dynamics System, Active AWD responds to the vehicle's slip angle when turning.

In the Forester 2.5i Limited and Touring and all 2.0XT models, a new X-Mode feature provides optimized control of the engine, transmission shift pattern, Active AWD front/rear clutching force, brakes, VDC and other critical systems to provide better wheel control on slippery surfaces and steep inclines.

The Hill Descent Control, which is automatically engaged with the X-mode, uses the VDC system to help maintain a constant vehicle speed when the Forester is travelling downhill to help enhance control.

Safety: Building on Proven Strengths
The Subaru Forester has established a distinguished reputation for safety, backed up by achieving the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety "Top Safety Pick" rating over many years. The 2014 Subaru Forester builds on that record and continues to be built around the company's proven Ring-Shaped Reinforcement Frame safety structure.

New safety features for the 2014 Forester include anti-whiplash front seats, a driver's knee airbag, Brake Override and an impact-sensing fuel system cutoff. With the front seats engineered to help protect the occupants from whiplash injuries in a rear collision, the active front seat head restraints of the outgoing model are no longer used, enhancing comfort. The Brake Override system cuts engine power if the driver applies both the brake and accelerator beyond a certain threshold. During an airbag deployment, the new impact sensor cuts fuel supply to the engine.

All Forester models for 2014 feature as standard equipment front seat side impact air bags and side curtain air bags that offer additional head protection for front and rear occupants. Intelligent dual-stage deployment front air bags use sensors to determine front air bag deployment strength for optimal occupant protection. A rollover sensor activates the seat belt pre-tensioners and deploys the curtain airbags if it detects potential vehicle rollover.

EyeSight Driver-Assist System
The 2014 Forester will offer Subaru's new EyeSight® driver-assist system, which debuted on the 2013 Legacy® and Outback® models. EyeSight, which will be available as an option on the 2.5i and 2.0XT Touring models, integrates Adaptive Cruise Control, Pre-Collision Braking and Vehicle Lane Departure Warning. EyeSight uses a stereo camera system developed by Subaru to provide a detection angle wider than that of radar-based systems.

New User Technology
Standard and high-line multi-information displays will be offered on the 2014 Subaru Forester. The basic version, in the 2.5i model, uses a 4.3-inch LCD screen to relay outside temperature, road surface freeze warning and a selection of fuel economy displays.

The high-line multi-information display, used in all other 2014 Forester models, adds, among other features, a color display for the standard rear vision camera, audio and Bluetooth information, climate control displays, vehicle self-check and maintenance reminder and, where applicable, X-Mode and Hill Descent Control operation.

The 2014 Forester offers infotainment upgrades over the outgoing model, with Premium and Limited versions getting a new standard audio system featuring six speakers, AM/FM stereo HD Radio™ and the ability to play music from CD, Bluetooth® audio streaming, iPod® and other media players.

Available for the 2014 Subaru Forester Premium and Limited versions and standard for the Touring models, the optional navigation system provides a 6.1-inch LCD touch screen, voice-activated controls and Aha® smartphone integration features, including radio stations, newsfeeds, audiobooks and more. Additional features include iTunes® tagging, Bluetooth hands-free phone connectivity, SMS Text Messaging Capability, XM® Satellite Radio and XM NavTraffic® (subscription required for XM services). The Forester 2.5i and 2.0 XT Touring models further upgrade that system with a harman/kardon 440-watt amplifier and eight harman/kardon speakers.

Renowned Subaru Value
In addition to making Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive standard on all Forester models, Subaru has equipped the 2014 versions with the largest array of amenities and conveniences ever offered in this SUV. The base Subaru Forester 2.5i model comes equipped as standard with a 6-speed manual transmission, 17-inch wheels, Incline Start Assist, outside temperature display, security system with engine immobilizer, carpeted floor mats, multi-function display with readouts for outside temperature and fuel economy, Bluetooth hands-free phone connectivity and audio streaming with steering wheel control switches, tilt/telescopic steering column, and much more.

Skoda Octavia Combi RS, 2014

  • Skoda Octavia Combi RS, 2014

The new Å koda Octavia RS is a continuation of the current model offensive of the Czech automaker Å koda. With its top speed of 248 km/h, the new RS is the fastest production Octavia of all time. Beginning in July 2013, the third RS generation will be entering markets both as a saloon and as an estate. Both model versions are equipped with powerful yet efficient engines, and they boast classy design as well as innovative technology. Furthermore, the new RS models offer all of the Å koda Octavia's outstanding features: outstanding functionality, ample room, top-notch safety, state-of-the-art safety and comfort assistance systems, and excellent value.

New engines with more power and lower fuel consumption
Customers can choose between a 162 kW (220 hp) two-litre petrol engine and a 135 kW (184 hp) two-litre diesel engine in the Å koda Octavia RS. Compared with the second-generation Octavia RS, the new engines have up to 10 percent more power while saving up to 19 percent in fuel. Start-stop and regenerative braking systems are standard features. Both engines are available with a manual or a DSG dual clutch transmission, each as a six-speed.

With the 2.0 TSI/162 kW (220 hp) petrol engine, the Å koda Octavia RS accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in as little as 6.8 seconds, making the new-generation saloon with manual six-speed transmission 0.4 seconds faster than the previous generation. With its 248 km/h top speed, the new model outruns the second-generation Octavia RS by 6 km/h. Despite significantly improved performance, the new petrol engine with manual transmission is 17 percent or 1.3 l/100 km more economical than its predecessor. The new Octavia RS only uses a combined 6.2 l/100 km. CO2 emissions have dropped by 33 g to 142 g/km.

The 2.0 TDI/135 kW (184 hp) diesel engine also delivers maximum performance and boasts low consumption. The Å koda Octavia RS diesel engine accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.1 seconds and reaches a top speed of 232 km/h. The saloon with manual six-speed transmission averages a combined 4.6 l/100 km and emits 119 g CO2 per kilometre - a 19 percent improvement.

Standard sports suspension, progressive steering and XDS differential lock
On the new Å koda Octavia RS, sports chassis is standard equipment. Furthermore, the clearance is 15 mm lower than in the standard Octavia. The MacPherson front axle with lower triangular wishbone suspension provides precise front tracking. The rear axle uses a newly developed multi-link suspension.

Standard features also include the electronic XDS differential lock, which is part of the ESC electronic stabilisation programme. It improves wheel traction and reduces the risk of understeering in fast cornering. Thanks to XDS, the vehicle's cornering behaviour has become more sporty, faster and more precise.

The new progressive steering provides the third-generation Å koda Octavia RS with better handling and agility. Thanks to this technology, the driver can use smaller steering inputs to achieve a desired curve radius. This means less changes of steering wheel grip are necessary in tight turns. A progressive gear ratio enables this new steering mechanism.

Sporty design: well-bred and classy
The new Å koda Octavia RS conveys pure emotion at first sight. Whether as a saloon or as an estate: The Octavia RS has athletic genes but keeps bragging to a minimum.

The attractive front view is a combination of a characteristic grille, striking air inlets with a honeycomb structure, a new apron and fog lights in RS design as well as new, now standard bi-xenon headlamps with integrated LED daytime running lights. The RS plaque in the grille is the seal of this sportiness.

Seen from the side, the body is lower compared with the standard Octavia. Furthermore, the new model has grown in length and width in comparison with the second-generation Octavia. The new Octavia RS is longer (saloon plus 88 mm, estate plus 86 mm) and 45 mm wider than its predecessor. At the same time, the wheel base increased by 102 mm. Both this and a shortened front overhang underscore the vehicle's powerful appearance. Standard red brake callipers, powerful proportions, a high tornado line and sharp, precise edges create passion.

The Å koda Octavia RS's new alloy wheels provide a very sporty touch. The designers created a total of four classy 17", 18", and 19" bi-colour RS wheel designs that are visually striking, optically light with sharp edges and precise craftsmanship down to the last detail. The standard Octavia RS comes with silver 17" Dorado alloy wheels and 225/45 size tyres. Customers have a choice between the Gemini and Pictoris 18" alloy wheels, both of which are suitable for 225/40 tyres. The Gemini wheels are available in two colours: silver and anthracite. Customers preferring extremely sporty rims can choose the 19" Xtrem aluminium alloy rim in black, available through Å koda Accessories.

Both on the saloon and the estate, a strong, black diffuser element and the wide reflector above it dominate the rear of the Octavia RS. Both elements are distinctive characteristics of the new Å koda Octavia RS, as are the wide, trapezoidal chrome tailpipes. LED tail lights in the typical Å koda C-shape are now standard equipment. On the saloon, the spoiler sits on the tailgate, while on the Skoda Octavia Combi RS, it is attached to the roof edge.

Sporty black is the dominant colour in the interior of the Å koda Octavia RS. The ambient door handle light on the inside of the front doors is a new feature. For the front seats, customers can choose newly designed RS sport seats in fabric and leather or in full leather, embellished with red or grey contrast stitching. And a sporty 3-spoke steering wheel with perforated leather is now one of the standard features. Both the gearshift knob and the handbrake handle are covered in leather as well. Door sill plates and pedals are stainless steel. The instrument cluster with a colour Maxi DOT display reflect the exclusive RS design. Steering wheel, gearshift, door sill plates, seats, and floor mats display the RS emblem.

Plenty of room, many Simply Clever solutions
In addition to being sporty, both the saloon and the estate versions of the new Å koda Octavia RS are equipped with all of the outstanding features that distinguish the new Octavia. This includes plenty of room and numerous Simply Clever solutions - all in the quality you expect from Å koda.

The Å koda Octavia RS beats the competition when it comes to interior space: No other compact sports car offers more than this model's 1,782 mm interior length, more legroom (73 mm) and more headroom in the rear (980 mm). The boot also sets a class record: The RS saloon's boot volume grew by 5 litres to 590 litres in comparison to its predecessor. With a total of 610 litres, the Skoda Octavia Combi RS offers even more volume.

In addition, the new Octavia RS is equipped with a number of Simply Clever features. Depending on the trim level, the following features are standard or optional with the Octavia RS saloon and Octavia Combi RS. The foldable cargo element for the boot makes it easy to secure items to the boot floor. For the first time in the Octavia RS, the boot is equipped with double-sided floor mat. The dirt-repellent side is ideal for storing items like dirty hiking shoes or wet ski boots. The ice scraper is easily accessible in the fuel filler flap, and reflective vests are easily stored in a rack under the driver's seat. The door storage space includes a waste container. A multimedia clip secures an iPod, mobile phone or other device. Other storage spaces, racks and hooks provide smart options for tidiness in the interior and in the boot of the new Octavia RS, with the extra big sized sunglass compartment in the front part of the roof being just one example. Other features include a misfuel prevention and, in the saloon, a boot cover that is easily stored behind the rear backrest.

The new Å koda Octavia Combi RS comes with an optional variable boot floor. Using the movable false boot floor, the boot can be divided into a variety of heights and areas, thus providing flexible transportation options. The coat storage underneath the Combi's boot cover is a newly added space. It provides room for items that otherwise would be scattered inside the boot. The roll-up load cover can be stored underneath the variable boot floor. This space also accommodates the roof rack when not in use. The rear seatbacks are split 60:40 and can be folded down from the boot. An optional net divider keeps items from flying forward. The net can be used even when the rear seatbacks are folded down.

Top-level safety
The new Å koda Octavia RS offers a high level of safety. Some of the newly developed, active safety systems include the Front Assistant with emergency braking, Lane Assistant, the multi-collision brake with automatic braking action in an accident, Crew Protect Assistant to protect the vehicle in accidents, and the Driver Activity Assistant. These systems help avoid accidents or minimise the effects of an accident on passengers and other road users.

In case of an accident, a comprehensive package of passive safety systems maximises the protection of the driver and passengers. Up to nine airbags work in synch with 3-point seatbelts to protect driver and passengers from injuries. For the first time, the Å koda Octavia RS provides knee airbags (standard in EU countries) and optional rear side airbags. Furthermore, the newest Å koda model's precise sports suspension, the long wheel base, and the rigid, lightweight body contribute to its highly stable handling characteristics.

Innovative comfort systems
Thanks to numerous electronic comfort systems, there is hardly anything left to be desired in terms of comfort. The new Å koda Octavia RS can be fitted with an Adaptive Cruise Assistant, which adjusts the distance to the vehicle ahead. The new Intelligent Light Assistant can be set to automatically switch the full beam on or off, thus improving comfort and safety on the road. The Automatic Parking Assistant helps guide parking manoeuvres, both for parallel and vertical parking. The traffic sign recognition is part of the Traveller Assistant package and displays traffic signs.

One of the new Å koda Octavia RS's optional features is the Keyless-Entry-Start-and-Exit-System (KESSY). A power panoramic tilting sunroof is also available.

The new Å koda Octavia RS offers a completely newly designed generation of infotainment radio and GPs systems. The newest model includes the Swing CD-radio with TFT monochrome display as standard equipment, together with four speakers in front and four in the rear. In addition to basic radio features, Swing offers a CD drive, an SD card slot, and a USB and AUX-In port that can accommodate an MP3 player or other devices.

Infotainment radio and GPS systems are also available for the new Å koda Octavia RS. More sophisticated systems use up to 8" touch displays with proximity sensors. The sound-optimized CANTON sound system provides pure listening enjoyment for the passenger cabin.

Seat Toledo, 2013

  •  Seat Toledo, 2013

The SEAT Toledo is back! The new saloon car from the Spanish SEAT brand combines design and utility, dynamism and efficiency, quality and value-for-money as never before. With generous space, great flexibility and an excellent price-performance ratio, the new Toledo appeals to customers seeking a practical, high-quality and affordable saloon car for the whole family - and who are not prepared to do without superior design and dynamic driving pleasure.

With its unique features, the new SEAT Toledo continues the formula for success of its predecessors. SEAT produced over 860,000 units of the first two Toledo series alone - a success that was always based on the combination of attractive design and practical features. The all-new generation of the SEAT Toledo will continue this success when it is delivered to the first customers, starting in mid-November in Spain and Portugal, then in the rest of Europe in 2013.

Perfect utility, the latest technology
The new Toledo is a grown-up automobile: With a length of 4.48 metres, it has a large and wide hatchback tailgate. It opens up to reveal a luggage compartment offering 550 litres of space in the basic version, which can be expanded to an amazing 1,490 litres with the optional folding rear seats. So the SEAT Toledo has the same capacity as many estate cars. The comparatively long wheelbase of 2,602 millimetres (80 millimetres longer than of the Toledo II) makes for a spacious interior and good legroom for all passengers; the generously sized doors guarantee easy access and exit.

As a completely new model, the SEAT Toledo features the latest engines and transmissions from the Volkswagen Group. The top models feature highly efficient TSI petrol engines and common-rail TDI diesel engines, and the most powerful petrol engine is combined with the 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission (DSG). The petrol engines deliver between 55 kW (75 hp) and 90 kW (122 hp); the Ecomotive version stands out with CO2 emissions of 116 grams per kilometre. And with the TDI diesel engine, which delivers 77 kW (105 hp) from 1.6 litres, the E-Ecomotive version sets the benchmark with fuel consumption of 3.9 litres per 100 kilometres and CO2 emissions of 104 grams per kilometre. In 2013, SEAT will add to the range of Toledo diesel models with a TDI version delivering 66 kW (90 hp).

The design
The new SEAT Toledo fits harmoniously into the further developed SEAT design identity, as expressed by the widely acclaimed IBE, IBX and IBL concept cars and consistently applied in the new Leon. The Toledo presents a strong and solid stature with clear and precisely defined surfaces, lines and edges. The broad, angular headlights are a significant element of the brand's new design DNA. Together with the trapezoid-shaped, low radiator grill, the trapezoid lower air vents and the horizontal rear lights, they effectively emphasise the car's width.

Elegant and harmonious
The designers added an element of refinement to the roofline: It describes an elegant curve as far as the broad C-column, which smoothly emerges from the rear side. The swept-back rear screen gives the new SEAT Toledo a harmonious, balanced stance - without reducing the car's versatility and functionality.

A precise contour leads from the outer edge of the headlights over the shoulder and to the rear lights, meeting the clean lines of the sills below. The rear doors provide another example of the well-conceived design: With their generous dimensions, they guarantee easy access and exit.

Modern, purist interior
The interior of the new SEAT Toledo is bright and spacious, reflecting the modern and purist design philosophy of the exterior. The cockpit is tidy and ergonomically laid out. Especially with the optional beige interior, the dark upper surfaces of the cockpit seem to hover above the rectangular air vents and trim. The clearly designed round instruments are easy to read; the control elements for audio and air-conditioning in the central console can be operated intuitively.

The interior design is perfectly supplemented with high-quality workmanship and carefully selected materials and colours. The precision applied is tangible in many details: in the attractively shaped three-spoke steering wheel for example, in the new operation of the air conditioning, or in the elegant chrome trim. The tactile precision of the switches and controls also demonstrates the utmost attention to detail.

The technology
As a completely new model series, the SEAT Toledo offers the state-of-the-art technologies available for its category. That begins with the highly rigid body shell, which provides a feeling of solid quality and offers optimal passive safety in combination with the standard restraint systems. But thanks to SEAT's intelligent lightweight design concept, the basic weight of the new Toledo is just 1,140 kilograms.

The efficiency of the new SEAT Toledo is outstanding. In terms of fuel consumption and CO2 emissions, all of the engine and performance versions of the Toledo range are among the best in their class. These exemplary values demonstrate the convincing overall package of low vehicle weight, optimal aerodynamics and ultramodern drivetrains.

Ultramodern engine programme
The engine programme of the new SEAT Toledo is based on three ultramodern four-cylinder TSI engines delivering between 63 kW (85 hp) and 90 kW (122 hp), as well as a turbo-diesel engine with at first 1.6 litres displacement and 77 kW (105 hp). The entry-level model has a three-cylinder 1.2-litre petrol engine with multipoint fuel injection and maximum power output of 55 kW (75 hp).

With displacement of 1,197 cubic centimetres, the TSI engine demonstrates the logic of the downsizing philosophy, according to which smaller gasoline engines with direct fuel injection and turbocharging enjoy the advantage of high efficiency. The engine's low weight of 89.5 kilograms, its low internal friction and optimised thermo management for shorter warm-up times of engine and catalyst are additional benefits of the TSI engines.

The Toledo 1.2 TSI Ecomotive is especially efficient: This turbo engine with 77 kW (105 hp) returns standard fuel consumption of just 5.0 litres of petrol per 100 kilometres and CO2 emissions of 116 grams per kilometre thanks to its start-stop system, brake-energy recuperation and a gear-change indicator in the dashboard. And with its 55-litre fuel tank, the car can travel 1,000 kilometres or more without filling up, depending on driving styles.

Exemplary efficiency and dynamics
This exemplary efficiency has no negative impact on the sporty dynamics of the SEAT Toledo 1.2 TSI: With maximum torque of 175 newton metres between 1,550 and 4,100 rpm, the engine provides great pulling power. A top speed of 195 km/h and acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 10.4 seconds are respectable performance figures for this class. Of course, the Toledo 1.2 TSI with 90 kW (122 hp) and standard DSG dual-clutch transmission is even more dynamic: This model has a top speed of 206 km/h and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 9.5 seconds.

TDI is another efficiency highlight
The 1.6 TDI Ecomotive is an additional efficiency highlight in the new SEAT Toledo range. This model shines with standard fuel consumption of just 3.9 litres per 100 kilometres and corresponding CO2 emissions of only 104 grams per kilometre. These excellent figures are also partially due to the car's standard start-stop system and braking-energy recuperation. Another impressive feature of the 1.6 TDI with common-rail fuel injection is its maximum torque of 250 newton metres between 1,500 and 2,500 rpm - making sufficient power available in every situation. In 2013, SEAT will also launch a model with another common-rail diesel engine delivering 66 kW (90 hp), also guaranteeing extremely favourable CO2 emissions.

The new Toledo's gearboxes are just as advanced as the engines. The TDI engines and the 1.2-litre 55 kW (75 hp) MPI and 1.2-litre 63 kW (85 hp) TSI are combined with perfectly matched five-speed manual transmission; while the model with the 77 kW (105 hp) petrol engine comes with a six-speed manual gearbox. The SEAT Toledo 1.4 TSI with a top speed of 206 km/h is exclusively supplied with the 7-speed DSG dual-clutch gearbox. The DSG transmission combines the sportiness and efficiency of a manual gearbox with the convenience of a conventional automatic. The imperceptible interruption of tractive power with gear changes in just a few hundredths of a second is particularly impressive and enjoyable.

The suspension of the new SEAT Toledo features sophisticated design and careful tuning, giving the saloon car sporty and safe handling. Front suspension is by means of MacPherson struts, lower wishbones and stabilisers, while a compact torsion-beam axle is used at the rear. ESP, the electronic stabilisation programme, is fitted as standard equipment. The electrohydraulic power steering is sporty and direct, and provides less servo assistance as the car's speed increases. It ensures precise steering, responsiveness and excellent straight-line stability.

Equipment levels
SEAT offers the new Toledo in three equipment versions - so that the model can be perfectly tailored to individual customer wishes. Standard equipment for all three versions includes front and side airbags for driver and front passenger, head and thorax airbags, seatbelt reminders, ABS, ESP with ASR, central locking, folding rear seat and electric front windows. The 15-inch steel wheel rims are fitted with tyres sized 185/60 R 15.

The SEAT Toledo Reference also comes with height adjustment for the driver's seat, remote central locking, split-folding rear seat, trip computer and an illuminated glove compartment. With the 77 kW/105 hp and 90kW/122hp engines, the Reference version is fitted with tyres sized 195/55 R 15. Exterior mirrors and door handles are painted to match the car body. Among the options list for the Reference are electrically adjustable and heated exterior mirrors, roof antenna and radio preparation including four loudspeakers.

SEAT Toledo Style meets the highest demands
The Style version is targeted at comfort-oriented customers, and emphasises its status as the top model with 16-inch light-alloy wheels and tyres sized 215/45 R 16. The package includes optional front fog lights with active static cornering lights up to a speed of 40 km/h. They are switched on automatically whenever the indicator is operated or when the steering wheel is moved substantially - a definite safety advantage when turning off at junctions or when entering a main road. When reverse gear is selected, both lights illuminate simultaneously.

The all-inclusive package of the SEAT Toledo Style also includes electric rear windows, a radio/CD player operated with switches on the steering wheel, height adjustment for the front passenger seat, leather steering wheel and gearstick lever, and central armrests front and rear. Cruise control is available as an option.

Option packages for easy customising
The SEAT Toledo can be further customised with a number of special option packages, making life in the car even more pleasant. The Winter package appeals to inhabitants of colder areas with heated front seats, a headlamp cleaning system and heated windshield washer nozzles. The Storage package includes practical tie-rings and boot-floor rails for more variable use of the luggage space and to install nets or partitions.

The many options that can also be ordered individually for the SEAT Toledo include air conditioning (for the Toledo Style) of the fully automatic Climatronic, a rear-screen wiper, interior monitoring, a removable tow bar, rear parking sensors, drive-off assistance for hills linked with ESP ("hill holder"). The SEAT Sound System 2.1 provides exceptionally good sound and excellent functionality.

The top multimedia system in the SEAT Toledo Style is the optional SEAT Media System 2.2, featuring 4 x 20 watts of amplification, six loudspeakers and a CD player with MP3 and WMA facilities. The communication centre is rounded off with a Bluetooth function, voice control, DAB/DAB+ reception (digital audio broadcasting) and DMB programmes (digital multimedia broadcasting), an AUX-in connection for using an external multimedia source, such as an MP3 player, and a 5-inch touchscreen monitor. The satellite navigation system with an SD card slot for storing current map material operates with dynamic routing, so it seeks the best route with consideration of any traffic jams. The high-definition display has a split function; in addition to the roadmap, other information can be viewed simultaneously.

SEAT offers the Toledo in three standard and seven metallic colours (two soft, seven metallic and one custom colour). With the Toledo Style, the interior can be ordered in a sophisticated beige, instead of the standard grey.

The heritage
The Toledo has been one of SEAT's most successful model series since the year 1991. That's when the first generation of this medium-sized saloon car debuted at the Barcelona Motor Show. After SEAT was integrated into the Volkswagen Group, the Toledo was the first model to apply the new technology of the Volkswagen Group. In 1992, SEAT was one of the main sponsors of the Barcelona Olympic Games - and the Toledo stand was again in the spotlight as the official car of the Games.

The first Toledo, designed by Italdesign Giugiaro in Turin, established the model series' now almost legendary reputation as a particularly spacious and cost-conscious automobile. Although it is by no means a very large car with a length of 4.32 metres, it was regarded as being unusually spacious. The enormous rear hatch of the notchback salon also proved to be extremely practical.

When the ten-millionth SEAT was driven off the assembly line by his Royal Highness Prince Felipe de Borbon in Martorell on 26 September 1995, this honour was allotted to a Toledo. In the same year, the first Toledo TDI with a turbo diesel engine and direct fuel injection appeared.

Toledo II as of 1998
At the Paris Motor Show in October 1998, SEAT unveiled the second generation of the Toledo. Once again, SEAT decided in favour of notchback styling for the Toledo, but this time with a conventional boot lid. With a volume of 500 litres, the second SEAT Toledo also offered enormous luggage space.

Once again, the design was greatly influenced by Giorgetto Giugiaro. However, it also displayed some of the brand's family features created by SEAT Design, with the SEAT logo mounted on a dark radiator grill and horizontal air vents on both sides. Overall, the Toledo II had more flowing lines and made a softer impression than its predecessor with its angular shape and horizontal elements.

Toledo III
When SEAT discontinued production of the Toledo II in 2004, more than 860,000 cars of the two generations had been built. Between 2004 and 2009, the Toledo III was produced, based on the SEAT Altea - with a high roofline and a rounded rear end. This 4.46-meter long model offering 500 to 1,400 litres of loading space continued the SEAT Toledo's good reputation as an extremely spacious vehicle.

With what is now the fourth edition of a model series that has been successful for more than two decades, SEAT is continuing the great tradition of the Toledo - with a model that combines the spaciousness of the first generation with the attractive design of the second: enhanced with highly efficient engines, lightweight construction, dynamic handling and the outstanding manufacturing quality of the current SEAT products.
