Lancia Voyager, 2012

  •  Lancia Voyager, 2012

The benchmark in the segment of large MPVs, the Lancia Voyager is 5.21 metres long, 1.99 m wide, 1.75 m high on a wheelbase of approx. 3.1 metres. This impressive size is matched by a spacious, refined passenger compartment in line with Lancia's best tradition, which is distinguished by attention to details and the use of soft materials of superior quality. And it is precisely when the new model welcomes guests that it is at its best.

Offered standard in the configuration with 7 seats, it is a model for relaxing moments and comfortable journeys, whose passengers will benefit from a firm sense of on-board wellbeing. To achieve this objective, the designers worked according to the most modern ergonomic standards, in order to fulfil the criteria which measure a vehicle's capacity to meet the requirements for comfort and wellbeing. The final results of the Lancia Voyager are excellent in all key ergonomic areas: comfort, driving position, accessibility, visibility and space reconfigurability.

Its welcoming and versatile interior is made attractive by the especially refined, comfortable and snug seats. The front seats are adjustable with electric controls. In addition, the useful "Easy Entry/Exit" function moves the driver's seat into the predefined position, simplifying getting into the vehicle.

Comfort and pleasant wellbeing also abounds for those sitting on the rear seats. They are genuine armchairs complete with headrests that ensure excellent comfort without compromising the driver's visibility. One of the peculiarities of the model is the exclusive Stow 'n Go®, the configuration system offered as standard equipment which frees up all the space needed for rear passengers and their luggage, without having to remove any seats. Not only can the seats be folded, but they can be retracted into the floor panel to transform, with utmost ease, the five comfortable seats of the second and third row into an ample load surface, suitable for all travel requirements. If the seats are kept upright, the practical compartments in the floor panel can be used for storage.

The Lancia Voyager seats are the best expression of MPV functionality combined with the beauty and luxury of a flagship, as also proven by the presence of heaters both in the cushions and in the backrests to offer a sense of on-board wellbeing.

Comfort and versatility: the art of travelling
Lancia Voyager surrounds the driver and passengers with technologies that ensure their highest level of acoustic and climatic comfort. This gave us a padded interior, which is comfortable and vibration-free thanks both to the car's super-efficient sound insulation obtained by using new acoustic panels and silencers throughout the vehicle and the adoption of impressive features such as the automatic triple-zone climate control system, the redesigned suspensions and the tyres designed specifically for maximum comfort and safety. Also the extensive electric roof, the Super Console, the "keyless entry/go" system and the sliding doors and tailgate, all electrically controlled, contribute to the elevated comfort and pleasure of travelling on board the Voyager. Separate mention must be made of the Stow 'n Go® system, which frees up all the space needed for rear passengers and their luggage, without having to remove any seats.

Synonymous with uncompromising choice for the driver and also for those who have the pleasure of experiencing it as a passenger, the Lancia Voyager features Uconnect, a sophisticated hub for information and entertainment that manages four main areas: multimedia system, navigation, phone and Internet connection (available via Mopar®). The most advanced statement of "infotainment" level, the device is a complete package that guarantees connection with the outside world and ensures the finest technologies for the driver's comfort and the passengers' entertainment. All in the spirit of maximum safety because the driver always has his hands on the steering wheel without having to take his eyes off the road.

Finally, Lancia Voyager offers many devices to really make driving comfortable: from the Cruise Control, heated steering wheel and adjustable pedals to the radio controls on the steering wheel, digital compass and electrochrome interior rearview mirror.

Triple-zone automatic climate control system
The climate inside the passenger compartment is one of the principal factors for comfort when travelling and is also important for preventative safety, because comfort, humidity and ventilation all influence the wellbeing of the driver and therefore his/her level of attention. Not forgetting that the heating and ventilation system is also responsible for the defrosting of the windscreen and side windows. This is why the Lancia Voyager is equipped with a triple-zone automatic climate control system, which allows three different temperatures and levels of air distribution to be programmed simultaneously, at the right of the passenger compartment, at the left and in the rear zone.

The system operates by automatically controlling temperature, air capacity, air distribution, the use of the compressor and air recirculation. The vent output positions and speed are automatically adjusted according to input conditions such as exterior temperature, interior temperature, the solar radiation and the coolant temperature. If required, the direction and speed of the air flow can be selected manually and fixed. In addition, the air vent on the floor directs the air flow onto the passengers' feet of the third row, hile further air vents for both the middle passengers and those in the third row are present in the head lining.

Suspensions optimised and specific tyres
The Lancia Voyager's suspension system uses a solid framework that is optimised to attain the best result in driving comfort and handling terms. At the front, it is the MacPherson type with crossmember and wishbones optimised for new load conditions; at the rear, there is a torsion beam and anti-roll bar to provide excellent handling performance.

The Lancia Voyager's suspensions have been specially developed for use on European roads, obtaining both exceptional travelling comfort with all types of road surfaces and handling features, such as precision and immediate driving response, of absolute reference.

In detail, the MacPherson struts ensure smooth driving, reactive handling and ultimate noise insulation while the rear axle, with interconnected wheels fitted with coil springs, contributes to improving driving stability and comfort. In addition, the setting up of the springs and shock absorbers envisaged installation of rear shock absorbers with a larger diameter and greater damping and adjustment spring rate control. The height from the ground has also been reduced to give aerodynamic improvement and a more solid and powerful aesthetic form.

On request, suspensions with load distribution and height control - so that the distance from the ground can be adjusted according to the combined passenger and load weight - are available, thus ensuring optimum handling and control values.

The Lancia Voyager is equipped with premium tyres with less rolling resistance that guarantee a better grip and vehicle response. The designers have also researched the handling features for emergency manoeuvres and obtained improvement in cornering performance and better turning and stability precision.

Stow 'n Go
The innovative system patented by Chrysler is composed of two rows of seats that fold away into the floor and practical storage compartments that can be used when the seats are raised. The seats of the second and third row (which can be split 60/40) can bend, tilt and fold away into the floor with simple gestures without removing the headrests. In this way all the surface necessary for transporting luggage and particularly voluminous objects is obtained, transforming with utmost ease the seat zone into a large load surface. Lastly, if the seats are kept upright, the practical compartments in the floor panel can be used for storage.

This is how the Lancia Voyager Stow 'n Go system works:
    move the front seat forwards, lower the headrests and raise the armrests of the second row seats;
    move the locking mechanism of the container compartment into the locked position and raise the compartment lock in order to open the cover;
    extract the lowering lever of the backrest on the outer side of the seat and tilt the backrest forwards. Greater pressure on the backrest may be required while it is being lowered to ensure that it is locked in the bent position;
pull the release belt on the upper part of the seat backwards and place the seat in the container, then close the cover.

Keyless entry/go system
The Lancia Voyager offers the "keyless entry/go" system, making entering your car and starting the engine simple and convenient. You no longer need to search for your key, put it in the lock, turn it, and once in the driver's seat, put it into the ignition to start the engine. All you need is your remote control key and everything changes. When you approach the car and pull the door handle, the keyless entry/go system's electronic control unit checks whether the key is in the vicinity. When the key is located and the secret code transmitted via radio frequency is confirmed as correct, the door automatically opens. At this point, all you need to do is get behind the wheel and start the engine by pressing the button on the dashboard. Once you reach your destination, the same procedure is carried out in reverse. Switch off the engine by pressing the same button, and once out of the car, push the door handle. For the control unit, this is the signal that you intend to leave the car, so the keyless entry/go system locks the doors.

Super Console
The new Super Console includes two 12 volt current sockets within the driver's reach, ideal for mobile phones and digital audio devices. Occupants of both the first and second rows have access to a glove compartment. The front LED cup holders can contain one-litre bottles, while the rear cup holders can be loaded from the first row and then slid back to the second row. There are two storage compartments covered for greater safety. Thanks to the diffused light system on the upper console that contains four storage compartments and adjustable LED lights, it is like travelling aboard an executive jet. There is also a quadrangular rear view mirror that allows the driver to keep an eye on the other occupants.

Electrically controlled sun roof, sliding doors and tailgate
The Lancia Voyager can be equipped with a glass sun roof that lets you have a different relationship with the surrounding environment every time. When you want the passenger compartment to be filled with light, it is possible to have the glazed part closed and the blind underneath open. If, on the other hand, you prefer driving under open skies, it takes just a few seconds to completely open the glass panel and you can enjoy a real "window to the world". All this happens by simply pressing the button on the roof panel console. The roof also has a safety system that reverses glass movement as soon as an obstacle is detected.

Again with maximum versatility in mind, the new car features electrically operated sliding doors and tailgate with a safety system for the detection of the presence of obstacles during closure (in this case, the doors are opened again to avoid unfortunate accidents).

Uconnect Media Center
The innovative Uconnect Media Center offers a touchscreen and voice commands (the microphone is built into the rear view mirror) for easy control of several multimedia sources and outputs. It is also possible to customise on-board multimedia entertainment through iPod® integration and the auxiliary port for MP3 players. The Media Center also includes a modern Radio/CD/DVD/MP3/WMA system and a 30 GB hard disk where music, photos and voice messages can be stored through a USB interface. In addition to the software and navigation maps, the hard disk can contain up to about 6,700 tracks, depending on the model. And for the more demanding customers, a voice message recorder stores reminder notes with a maximum time of three minutes.

By connecting a digital device with analogue connection (it supports Mini, 4G, Photo, Nano, 5G, iPodT and iPhoneT peripheral devices) to the USB port located in the storage compartment, you can listen to hours and hours of digital music in MP3 and WMA formats. The audio is played by the car stereo system while the information (artist, track title, album, etc.) are displayed on the radio screen. In addition, the audio peripheral device battery recharges when connected to the USB/AUX connector.

Another peculiar feature of the Lancia Voyager is "Uconnect Multimedia", a rear entertainment system with dual LCD screen DVD player for passengers in the middle and back. Specifically, the innovative device enables reproduction of two different media resources at the same time - chosen from many sources (radio, hard disk, AUX input, USB port, two RGB inputs and two DVD players) - on two 9" LCD screens which can be lowered from the roof console complete with remote control and two-channel wireless headphones. In addition, adjustable LED roof lights, inspired by aeronautical design, enable light to be directed only where required. Thanks to the double DVD screen, while one passenger is watching his favourite movie the other can continue to have fun by connecting his video game console.

Finally, now available is "Uconnect GPS": the satellite navigation function with 2D and 3D bird's eye view maps and progressive route guidance.

Uconnect Phone
It is an innovative hands-free communication system with voice activation that guarantees maximum safety and is simple to use. The voice command system and its full integration with the audio system, with controls on the steering wheel and with the information on the instrument display allow customers who have Bluetooth® mobile phones to use it even if it is in a jacket pocket or a handbag, without ever having to take their hands off the steering wheel (up to 7 phones can be paired up). Therefore, by using the voice commands or the buttons on the steering wheel it is possible to call the numbers in the phonebook (up to 1,000 items can be automatically downloaded from the mobile phone) or answer incoming telephone calls using the car audio system as the microphone (the system automatically cuts out the radio volume). Uconnect Phone is available in 6 languages: English, Dutch, French, German, Italian or Spanish.

Engines: power and reliability
Lancia Voyager proposes two Euro5-compliant engines which enhance the dimension of travel, with engineering and performance coming together to deliver comfort beyond compare: the lively 163 HP 2.8L diesel and the powerful 283 HP 3.6 petrol engine. Both engines comply with Euro 5 standards and are combined with a 6-speed automatic gearbox with torque converter that offers closer spacing between the gears, limiting engine speed changes between the different transmission ratios and guaranteeing smoother engagements suited to all driving situations. Compared to the four-speed automatic transmission of the Chrysler Group from which it derives, the six-speed automatic transmission of the Lancia Voyager is equipped with two new main gear ratios and a secondary gear ratio to optimize performance at high speeds. It is also designed to increase the torque power on the initial peak to provide greater acceleration when starting off.

163 HP 2.8L diesel
The Lancia Voyager can be equipped with a 2.8 litre common rail turbodiesel engine delivering 163 HP and a torque of 360 Nm, keeping fuel consumption at 7.9 l/100 km in the combined cycle while CO2 emissions are 207 g/km.

The engine has four valves per cylinder and a double overhead camshaft (DOHC) with belt control. It is equipped with a 1,800 bar common rail injection system, piezoelectric injectors and variable geometry turbocharger.

Other features of the Lancia Voyager 2.8L engine are the new intake manifold made of composite material, a new EGR exhaust gas recirculation system, reduced friction O-rings, electronic turbulence control, oil and exhaust gas temperature sensors, diesel particulate filter (DPF) supplied standard and further adjustments to reduce noise, vibrations and rigidity (NVH) and to guarantee improved driving comfort.

283 HP 3.6L V6 petrol engine
The second engine in the range is the new 3.6L V6 petrol engine with 6 cylinders configured in a 60° V, which delivers 283 HP at 6,600 rpm and a torque of 344 Nm at 4,400 rpm. Thrilling performance puts it at the top of the class, all with fuel consumption at around 10.8 l/100 km in the combined cycle. Worthy of note is its exceptionally flat torque curve with a high specific power from 1,600 to 6,400 rpm, in addition to passing the peak value of 90%. This means concrete excellent driving and reactivity features for the customer.

The Pentastar V-6 engine of the Lancia Voyager boasts a completely restyled design, with double overhead camshaft (DOHC), aluminium exhaust manifolds, piston skirts covered with polymeric materials, forged steel connecting rods and the 60° die-cast aluminium crankcase. Thanks to the combination of the high flow intake and exhaust valves with the phase transformer with independent timing of the two camshafts, it offers optimum volumetric and fuel efficiency in the entire load and rpm interval. What's more, the sophistication of the single components was a key goal since the design phase. This goal has been achieved due to using state-of-the-art techniques in computer-aided design. The structural intake and exhaust zones have been designed in order to reduce the noise levels and to attain specific goals regarding perceptible sound quality by exceeding the expectations of attentive and demanding customers.

Designed complying with environmental criteria, the Pentastar 3.6-litre V6 engine does not require the use of lead during its manufacturing stages and adopts an eco-compatible oil filtering system with recyclable filter and removable elements that do not cause leaks. In addition, an integrated oil radiator contributes to protecting the environment when the filter element is sent to the incinerators. The use of long-life spark plugs and a direct ignition system with high distribution of energy prolong the life of the components, reducing the maintenance costs.

Safety: pampered and protected
In full observance of Lancia's tradition, the new model offers the best available to date in the technological innovation field applied to safety and protection as the more than 40 devices offered as standard show. Some of them are introduced for the first time in the segment. These include: latest generation multistage airbags for front seats, new side airbags fitted on the front seat, side window airbags for three rows of seats, electronic stability control system complete with braking assistance and traction control at all speeds, fog lights, automatic headlights and active pedestrian protection, blind spot detection system, active headrests, windscreen wipers with rain sensors, ParkSense® parking assistance system, and ParkView® rear camera.

The Lancia Voyager boasts excellent braking thanks to the anti-lock disc brakes as standard on the four wheels, besides special structural features that, in the event of accidents, help to keep the passenger compartment intact and to better manage the energy produced: from the crossmember at mid-dashboard to the Dual Phase steel in the internal and external octagonal front bar; from the straight tips of the front bar to the energy absorbing chassis anchoring struts supporting the engine.

Multistage front airbags, side airbags and window bags
The front airbags of the Lancia Voyager are fitted with an advanced latest generation multistage system which supplies an opening adequate for the severity of a crash, which is detected by the ECU that manages the restraint systems and the sensors located at the front of the vehicle. The inflation device for the first stage engages immediately during an impact which requires the activation of the airbag. The timing device for the second stage determines whether the supply force required is low, medium or high. If a low supply is sufficient to meet the needs of the situation, the second stage release is delayed in order to eliminate, in the case of a crash, pyrotechnic material activated by the system.

To protect the passenger's pelvis and chest when the side of the car is struck, the Lancia Voyager is equipped with side bags which are located inside the backrests, ensuring better protection of occupants, regardless of their stature, the position that they assume and the adjustment of the seats. Fitted as standard on all vehicles in the range, window bags are set up to descend along the windows to protect the occupants' heads in the case of a lateral collision. Compared to other solutions, the Lancia Voyager's window bags offer more protection (because they always inflate in the correct position), and are quicker to inflate and less invasive for passengers. They open from the top downwards, with no risk of causing secondary damage to the occupants' arms through their movement. In this way, they efficiently protect both the heads of the front passengers and those seated behind, because they are as wide as the windows. The window bags also ensure that passengers are protected if the vehicle rolls over. The two cushions (one for the right hand side and one for the left) are located under the roof side members, folded into a closed compartment.

Active headrests
The Lancia Voyager's headrests are designed to reduce the risk of injury by limiting the head's movement in the case of shunt. The restraint system ECU determines whether the severity or type of rear impact requires the activation of the rear headrests. If their activation is required, the front half of both active headrests extends forward to reduce the distance to the occupant's neck.

Adaptive front lighting system
The Lancia Voyager's front headlamps are automatic (they switch on and off depending on the environment lighting levels) and have a levelling system that allow them to maintain the most suitable position compared to road surface (regardless of the vehicle load).

Blind Spot Monitor
Another exclusive feature of the new Lancia Voyager is the "Blind Spot Monitor" (BSM). This visual indicator on the door mirror signals entry into the blind spot, namely the dangerous situation of having a car travelling alongside which is not visible in the door mirror. When the indicator is used to signal an intended lane change, a visual and audible alarm alerts the driver to check the position of vehicles around him very carefully before manoeuvring.
Active Pedestrian Protection

The system intervenes in the event of accidental impact raising the rear of the bonnet in order to safeguard the pedestrian safety.

  •  Gumpert Apollo, 2008

The Gumpert Apollo is the perfect synthesis between road vehicle and racing car. It exceeds all expectations with its passion and maximum driving fun. 650 HP, up to 360 km/h top-speed and an acceleration of 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.0 seconds make it a full-blooded super sports car to which there is no alternative. The complete package is available at a cost-performance ratio unequalled in this exclusive vehicle class.

The production process is the one part of the manufacture philosophy in which exclusivity and precision are paramount to speed. Gumpert Sportwagenmanufaktur associates the term ‚manufacture' with it's the commitment to achieve quality and luxury by means of craftsmanship and hand-made production.

Roland Gumpert, founder, managing director and the driving force behind Sportwagenmanufaktur, has created a manufacturing environment that combines engineering excellence with a broad automotive and racing competence. Experts within the motorsports scene are all familiar with the name Gumpert: In the mid 1970s, the long-standing Audi manager was the driving force behind the development of the four-wheel drive "Iltis", the original predecessor of today's "Quattro". In 1979 he not only succeeded in preparing the gnarled four-wheel drive "Iltis" for the Paris-Dakar rally, but also achieved victory. In the years that followed under his management, Audi Sport won a total of 25 World Rally Championship races and was the 4-time winner of the World Rally Championship. Gumpert's professional success is distinguished by his ability to combine innovative ideas with proven technology effectively and successfully.
Gumpert Apollo

A team of automotive and motor sports specialists joined forces to pool their enthusiasm and energy into developing and creating the Gumpert Apollo. Their abilities create the space for the finest workmanship and utmost individuality, with the use of high-tech processes and integration of proven standard components securing the technical basis.

With the Gumpert Apollo we are providing a select clientele of ambitious sports drivers and car enthusiasts with the opportunity of experiencing the unique synergy between hand-made high-end components optimised for performance on the road and the track, and of distinguishing themselves from the remainder of the world of sports cars. Up to 100 vehicles will leave the factory each year - just enough to ensure that these exceptional vehicles retain their exclusive status.

Gumpert Sportwagenmanufaktur is an independent, privately financed company. The financial stability of the company is being secured by well-known investors. Their operative commitment will also promote the international sales and distribution of Gumpert Apollo.

The challenge was to develop an exceptional design that combined the extreme aerodynamic requirements of a performance-oriented, purist super sports car with the aesthetic design of an exclusive vehicle. We wanted to achieve the perfect synthesis of design and function. Without compromising. And we have succeeded with Gumpert Apollo: Its silhouette, optimised in numerous wind tunnel tests, reflects its by far superior capabilities.

In its profile, the Gumpert Apollo dynamic appearance is further enhanced by its dimensions (4.46 m length, almost 2 m width and 1.24 m height) and its streamlined, long and wide shoulder lines. The mid-engine layout is emphasised by the cockpit, which is clearly located toward the front of the vehicle, and the long wheel base; both factors ensure optimum driving qualities. Massive air inlets and outlets in the front and on the side in front of and behind the doors leave no doubt about its potency. Above all, though, they supply the two turbo-chargers and the high-performance braking system with enough fresh air to ensure optimum operation for the duration of a race. The high-set air intake for the engine is reminiscent of Formula 1 vehicles and emphasises Gumpert Apollo racing character. The dominant rear provides a view of the diffuser and the underbody, encased completely in carbon, - which, combined with the front diffuser and flow channels, achieves an exceptionally high negative lift for a road vehicle.

Gumpert Apollo leaves a lasting impression on anyone who sees it: It symbolises unusual power, dynamism and sportiness. It reflects above-average performance capability paired with timeless elegance, and even when it is not moving, shows that the design can only adhere to function: driving dynamics.

The secret of Gumpert Apollo is an innovative design concept from racing car engineering. The base and symbolic backbone of Gumpert Apollo consists a round tube frame made of top-quality and highly stable chrome-molybdenum-steel with an integrated monocoque safety cell made of high quality carbon fibre screwed directly onto the frame. The 161 kg (355 lbs.) construction design is so effective, so torsion proof and bend resistant that it complies with both the specifications of the European MOT approval and the international manufacture specifications of motor sports (see annex J of the FIA regulations). Gumpert Apollo succeeds in combining low weight with the rigidity of a racing car, finest driving dynamics and maximum safety. The Gumpert Apollo is one of the safest and most agile vehicles of its class.

The consistent achievement of maximum driving dynamics and uncompromising functionality is also visible in the interior design: Every detail was designed according to functional viewpoints equivalent to those of a racing car, yet without neglecting the required amount of comfort and quality.

TAILOR-MADE PURISM AND LUXURY
Light weight was the top priority and has been achieved through the exclusive use of high-tech materials. The instrument panel, like the monocoque it is integrated into, is made of carbon fibre. The seat buckets, too, are fitted into the monocoque - although you will not find seats in the conventional meaning in the Gumpert Apollo. The seat position is adjusted to each customer individually, using padding, upholstery, adjustable pedals, and the steering column. Yet you are not required to forgo proven technology in the Gumpert Apollo: air conditioning, high-end navigation system with an integrated reverse camera, CD/DVD player and much more are available.

The Gumpert Apollo is a tailor-made sports car, and individual masterpiece. In line with this principle, customers can design the interior to meet their preferences, be it pure performance or somewhat more luxurious. Decide the colours and designs yourself, whether leather, seams or embroideries are concerned. We guarantee you a car that will fulfil all of your requirements. Just talk to us.

READY FOR RACETRACK
A sports car's supremacy is not defined by pure engine power alone: only a car that can put this power on the asphalt and create a balance between all occurring internal and external forces will leave the contestants behind, on the road and the race track. The chassis is the key to this supremacy - and Gumpert Apollo has already proven itself spectacularly under the toughest testing conditions on various test tracks, public roads and real racing tracks such as Hockenheim, Imola and the historical "Nordschleife".

The Gumpert Apollo is built as a racing car according to FIA GT and ACO regulations upon request.
Success is one of Gumpert Sportwagenmanufaktur's clearly defined objectives in racing. Naturally the factory benefits from the years of experience in motor sports and the remarkable successes of company owner Roland Gumpert.

The Gumpert Apollo made a great third place with the Belgian racing driver, Ruben Maes, in the cockpit at its racing debut at the Divinol Cup in Hockenheim in April 2005.

PROVEN PERFORMANCE IN A NEW DIMENSION
The impressive power of the high-performance eight cylinder engine is based on proven V8-high-performance aggregates from Audi. In the standard configuration this engine is optimised for use in racing and road vehicles and produces 650 HP as a Biturbo engine. Weighing only 196 kg (432 lbs.), it plays a major role in ensuring the ideal weight and fascinating driving dynamics of Gumpert Apollo. An angle of 90° between the two cylinder banks is a sign of a classic 8-cylinder engine. Efficient utilisation of its remarkable energy in the back wheels guarantees the fully-synchronised, sequential six-speed transmission that incorporates Formula 1 know-how. The short gear paths allow high speed gear changes. The arrangement of the gears in a longitudinal direction in the path of travel ensures a very low centre of gravity and optimum weight distribution. The characteristic sound of the double-flow exhaust system of the Gumpert Apollo with its 3-way catalytic converters says it best - the Gumpert Apollo is pure, unbeatable performance as reflected in the data. Like a comet, the Gumpert Apollo catapults its pilot from 0 to 100 km/h (0-62 mph) in just 3.0 seconds and only requires 8.9 seconds from 0 to 200 km/h (0-124 mph).

For connoisseurs form whom driving fun does not necessarily equal maximum motor performance and ultimate acceleration, the engine is also ideally suited for day-to-day driving at lower speeds.

DRIVING DYNAMICS REDEFINED
The Gumpert Apollo's suspension was developed to ideally complement the body's sophisticated aerodynamics. The resulting is unusual driving dynamics. The Gumpert Apollo is taut but not hard and provides driver and passenger with an extraordinar level of comfort for a car designed purely for performance. It demands the pilot's unswerving attention, yet due to its ultra-precise and predictable driving characteristics does not overwhelm, even at top speed.

An ideal weight balance of 42 to 58 percent between the front and rear axis rounds it off: It provides optimum traction during acceleration, whilst ensuring stable control even when braking in critical situations.

The Gumpert Apollo owes the finely tuned sensitivity of the suspension system and the optimised exertion of power to its double transverse control arm pushrod configuration at the front and back. The double transverse control arms ensure that the tires maintain optimum contact with the road surface, independent of the bound rate of suspension system. The suspension system allows the owner to seamlessly set the ground clearance in a range between 40 and 120 mm (1.57-4.72 in). Sealed uniball joints ensure that the forces are transferred precisely and with little friction. Stabilisers support the efficiency of the suspension and pitch compensation prevents the vehicle from diving during braking and lifting during accelerating. Despite its low trim, the Gumpert Apollo provides long wheel travel in compression and rebound, facilitating the finely-tuned and precise functioning of the absorbers and springs.

The high level of driving dynamics is supported by an agile electro-hydraulic power steering system that provides the driver with direct feedback. In order to securely transfer the 850 nm torque to the road, Gumpert Apollo has a traction control system (TCS) used in motor sports. Developed together with the company Racelogic, the permitted slip can be accurately set on the rear axle - according to the drivers wishes. An optional launch control, adjusted to the Gumpert Apollo especially, ensures swift starts like those of Formula 1. The Gumpert Apollo's driving performance is controlled with a 2-circuit high-performance braking system with adjustable 3-level Bosch-ABS, 378 mm (14.9 in) ventilated discs, and 6-piston callipers on the front and rear axle.

All of these are primary technical principles, the sportive orientation of which could not be clearer. Thanks to its suspension, the Gumpert Apollo proves itself in every curve: It redefines the term ‚driving dynamics'.

Vauxhall Ampera, 2012

  • Vauxhall Ampera, 2012

The revolutionary Vauxhall Ampera will be the first electrically driven automobile with zero-emission capability in Europe that's suitable for everyday driving. With its Voltec electric propulsion system providing lively acceleration and high levels of refinement, the five-door Vauxhall Ampera seats four passengers in comfort, offers a useful boot for their luggage, and features an extended range of more than 300-miles.

Electricity drives the Vauxhall Ampera's wheels at all times and speeds. For trips up to around 40-miles, power is supplied by the electricity stored in the 16-kWh, lithium-ion battery.

While driving on electricity delivered by the battery, the Vauxhall Ampera emits zero CO2. When the battery's energy is depleted, a petrol or E85-fuelled engine-generator seamlessly provides electricity to power the electric drive unit while simultaneously sustaining the charge of the battery. This mode of operation extends the range for several hundred additional miles, until the battery can be charged via a standard household 240v outlet.

Unlike a conventional battery-electric vehicle, the Vauxhall Ampera eliminates "range anxiety," giving the confidence and peace of mind that the driver will not be stranded by a depleted battery.

The Vauxhall Ampera's battery pack will be manufactured by GM at the first lithium-ion production facility to be operated by a major automaker in the United States. More than 220 lithium-ion cells in the T-shaped pack provide ample power. The nearly silent electric drive unit delivers 370 Nm of instant torque, the equivalent of 15bhp, zero to 60mph acceleration in around nine seconds, and a top speed of 100mph.

The Vauxhall Ampera will be well-suited to the daily driving schedule of most customers. For example, research by GM in Europe showed that approximately 80 percent of drivers travel less than 30-miles daily. Based on current fuel prices, Vauxhall predicts that the Vauxhall Ampera will cost roughly one-fifth of the current cost per mile of an equivalent petrol engined car.

Lamborghini Urus Concept, 2012

  •  Lamborghini Urus Concept, 2012

At the 2012 Beijing Motor Show, Automobili Lamborghini presents the ultimate super athlete in the SUV segment. The Lamborghini Urus Concept is completely redefining dynamics and design in this category. The Urus combines unique design, a fascinating interior and outstanding performance with versatility and everyday usability.

Output of around 440 kW / 600 hp and Lamborghini's excellent know-how in the field of lightweight design technologies guarantee breathtaking dynamics. At the same time, the Lamborghini Urus will offer the lowest CO2 figure of all comparable vehicles. As an SUV concept with four generous seats, a versatile luggage compartment, variable ground clearance and, of course, permanent all-wheel drive, the Urus delivers unique driving fun with virtually no limitations. The interior, too, matches the standards of this super athlete with innovative materials featuring carbon fiber technology like the patented Forged Composite.

The luxury SUV segment is successful worldwide and promises continued strong growth - a luxurious and powerful SUV is the most emotional way to drive a four-door vehicle equipped to meet all the demands of everyday mobility and yet enjoy refined driving fun. The Urus means that a Lamborghini can now be used by a household as its primary car. This expands the brand's customer base enormously - appealing to families and to the drivers of Lamborghini super sports cars who have thus far driven SUV models from other brands. Target markets are primarily the USA, the United Kingdom, Germany, Russia, the Middle East and China. The annual production volume could conceivably be around 3,000 vehicles.

Heritage and Name
Permanent all-wheel drive is part of the Lamborghini DNA; but the brand from Sant'Agata Bolognese is also no stranger to the SUV segment - Lamborghini founded the super-luxury SUV segment with the legendary LM002. When it was unveiled in 1986, the LM002 was an absolutely revolutionary vehicle. An automobile suitable for off-road driving with a twelve-cylinder engine and 450 hp, a top speed of more than 210 km/h, a luxurious interior and, above all, an absolutely stunning appearance - it was utterly unthinkable at the time. The Lamborghini LM002 remained in production until 1992. And, although barely more than 300 units were ever built, the LM002 has secured its place in automotive history.

With the Urus, Lamborghini designers and engineers have created a new icon in automotive history - that much is certain. As has long been the tradition at Lamborghini, its name is derived once more from the world of bulls - the Urus, also known as Aurochs, is one of the large, wild ancestors of domestic cattle. Lamborghini Urus bulls could measure up to 1,8 meters at the shoulder. The Spanish fighting bull, as bred for the past 500 years, is still very close to the Lamborghini Urus in its appearance.

Concept and Technology
The Urus is the Lamborghini among SUVs. Its concept places design, performance and driving fun firmly and uncompromisingly front and center and redefines the benchmark for the competition. Yet it offers plenty of space for four people and a generous amount of luggage or shopping. The Urus is the Lamborghini for everyday use, for the family, for leisure pursuits with friends.

Most importantly, however, it is a true Lamborghini. The Lamborghini Urus has a unique, utterly unmistakable appearance. It looks powerful, but not bulky. It is muscular and highly athletic, but also elegant. At a length of 4,99 meters, it fits perfectly into the sporty SUV class. At a height of just 1,66 meters, however, it is considerably lower than all its competitors. Together with its width of 1,99 meters, the Lamborghini Urus boasts the perfect proportions for the super athlete in the segment.

The key to its performance is primarily the drive - the heart of every Lamborghini. The target has been set - expect around 440 kW / 600 hp. Permanent all-wheel drive with traction control is, of course, a given.

One target is clearly defined - the Lamborghini Urus will beat all comparable competitors when it comes to CO2 emissions. One important prerequisite for this is low weight. The Urus will be considerably lighter than its competitors, sticking firmly to the Lamborghini lightweight design philosophy. The steps to achieve this include an intelligent material mix for the structure and bodyshell and, for the first time, systematic lightweight design in the interior, too. The consistent application of innovative carbon fiber technologies is a given - Automobili Lamborghini possesses unique know-how in this particular field.

Lightweight design is the decisive prerequisite not only for moderate fuel consumption, but also for dynamics and handling. The Lamborghini Urus will set new benchmarks here, too. A low center of gravity and a highly variable bodyshell height are among the solutions. The Lamborghini SUV is also notable for its innovative, adaptive aerodynamics. In combination with the variable bodyshell height, the height-adjustable front spoiler facilitates a good approach angle and excellent obstacle clearance. At its lowest setting, however, it aids stability at high speeds. The form is, of course, aerodynamically refined. At the upper edge of the rear windshield is a deflector that diverts the airflow along the rear windshield and onto the adjustable spoiler. In combination with the likewise adaptive rear spoiler, the aerodynamic balance of the Lamborghini Urus can even be adjusted to suit the prevailing driving conditions.

Design
Lamborghini design is unique. Every Lamborghini is an artwork of avant-garde design, a technical sculpture in rapid movement. Every Lamborghini is pure and minimalist - exhibiting a clear focus on what matters. The Lamborghini Urus concept car adheres to this logic just as firmly as the Aventador sports car. Extremely tight, razor-sharp lines define a precision that is at the very forefront of automotive design. And the clean, taut, finely executed surfaces show the exceptional degree of competence and experience possessed by Lamborghini in design, construction and bodyshell manufacturing. The result is a tremendously precise design language with a strong technical appeal that is amazingly spirited and light in its expression.

It starts at the front, which already displays the clear family resemblance. The strong three-dimensionality with sharp lines, a clear arrow form, large air intakes left and right, the Y shape in the headlamps, the aerodynamically refined function of the elements and the lines that run from the hood over the roof to the rear of the vehicle - these characteristics of the Lamborghini design language are all evident in the Urus.

And yet every single detail has been reinterpreted - for example, the headlamps now take on a horizontal, heptagonal form and feature full LED technology consisting of two arrays each with three high-performance LEDs. LED light guides lend the daytime running lights their characteristic Y-shape, while the LED fog lamps are positioned beneath the huge air intakes. Between them is the adaptive front spoiler. Characteristic for the side view of the Lamborghini Urus is the narrow window surface that tapers sharply toward the rear. Together with the highly dynamic roofline and the extremely muscular rear wheel arch, they create a taut and powerfully sporty look. The marked indent formed behind the front wheel arch by the air intake breaks the side view to give it a surprising degree of lightness.

Substantial wheels are part of any Lamborghini, especially if it redefines dynamics in the SUV segment - the all-new 24-inch wheels sport a double-spoke design and are forged from matte-finish aluminum. Five carbon fiber winglets optimize ventilation. The Urus is painted in a rich, lightly shimmering red that offers the ideal contrast for the many bodyshell parts made from carbon fiber reinforced polymer. A large proportion of the front spoiler, the complete side sills and the mighty rear diffuser all clearly display their carbon fiber origins. There are no conventional exterior mirrors, instead small and aerodynamically optimized cameras monitor traffic conditions behind the vehicle. These images are displayed via two TFT screens placed in ergonomically perfect positions on the left and right of the cockpit.

The rear end of the Lamborghini Urus Concept is astonishingly round for a Lamborghini; it looks powerful, but in no way bulky. The narrow rear lights featuring the Y signature are connected by a black strip that adds emphasis to the car's breadth. The attention paid by Lamborghini designers to detail is evident everywhere, even on the exhaust system. The four hexagonal end pipes are carefully fitted into chrome surrounds.

Interior
The Lamborghini Urus completely redefines the term sporty within the SUV segment, yet without restricting its everyday usability. This is particularly evident in its interior - the driver and up to three passengers feel like they are wearing a perfectly made-to-measure suit - carefully fitted, but comfortable. Yet there can be no doubt that what we are dealing with here is the ultimate sports car among SUVs. Virtually the complete interior is - in keeping with the Lamborghini lightweight design strategy - finished in carbon fiber reinforced polymer.

Automobili Lamborghini possesses a unique competence in the use of carbon materials, and exhibits this innovative technology in the Lamborghini Urus Concept car. The center tunnel is particularly notable - an open, skeletal carbon fiber structure made from Forged Composite. It carries through the entire interior and is only partially clad in leather-upholstered cushioning. Single cushions also clad the four bucket seats. The seating position is lower and flatter than in any other vehicle in the segment. Also all four bucket seats are made from Forged Composite.

The Lamborghini Urus Concept also features an extremely minimized operating philosophy. Behind the steering wheel are only the shift paddles for the dual-clutch transmission. All other functions such as indicators, lights and windshield wipers are incorporated into either the multifunction steering wheel or the center console. The driver is delivered information via a freely programmable TFT screen behind the steering wheel. Secondary functions like navigation, entertainment and climate control are operated via a touchscreen on the center tunnel. A further touchscreen is available for rear seat passengers.

  • Hyundai i40 Wagon, 2012

Hyundai looks set to transform the way its brand has traditionally been viewed in Europe through the launch of the dynamic all-new Hyundai i40, unveiled on the global stage for the first time at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show.

Designed and engineered at the company's European R&D headquarters in Rüsselsheim, Germany, the D-segment i40 will move Hyundai towards a 'modern premium' positioning on the continent, providing consumers with high-end features and vehicle quality at accessible prices.

The 4.7-metre long Hyundai i40 will first go on sale in wagon form, supported by Hyundai's industry-best, fully transparent Five Year Triple Care assurance. This package attracted European consumers to the brand in 2010 through its combination of a five-year unlimited warranty, five years of roadside assistance and five years of vehicle health checks.

'New Thinking. New Posiibilities.'
Hyundai is expecting the European D-segment to grow by 12.6% over the next five years, with industry experts forecasting total sales volumes of 890.000 units across the continent by 2016. With a bold sales target of 60.000 units for the Hyundai i40's first full year of sales in 2012, Hyundai is looking to challenge the Toyota Avensis for a top-five place in the overall D-segment sales chart.

Design Inspiration
The original inspiration for the Hyundai i40 can be traced back to the Genus concept car. Genus represented Hyundai's vision in Europe for a unique alternative within the D-segment, combining practicality with emotional design. Genus helped to forge a new identity for the company, with the debut of the hexagonal grill, a feature which has since become Hyundai's brand face in Euro

The sporty design of the i40 does not impact negatively on levels of interior comfort. The wheelbase is 2.77 metres and the car delivers best-in-class dimensions for front head (1025mm), shoulder (1455mm), and leg (1170mm) room. This impressive roominess promises to give all occupants spending long periods of the time in Hyundai i40 the most comfortable D-segment ride available.

Cargo capacity in the i40 more than holds its own among competitors in the class, with figures ranging from 553 litres with the rear seats occupied up to 1719 litres with the rear seats folded down.

Powertrains
The all-new Hyundai i40 will be available with a choice of four Euro V-compliant engines: two petrol and two diesel. These units cover a power spread of 115 ps to 177 ps, with torque delivery extended across a wide engine-speed range, making the i40 an enjoyable car to drive around town or on the motorway. Manual and automatic transmissions will also be offered.

In a segment where diesel models represent over 75% of total sales, Hyundai is anticipating that the U-II 1.7-litre diesel unit developing 136 ps will be the most popular engine among both private and fleet buyers.

Hyundai's all new four-cylinder 2-litre GDI engine, called 'Nu', makes its debut in the Hyundai i40, promising deliver higher torque (for enhanced driveability), improved fuel economy and reduced emissions, plus undiminished durability and excellent NVH characteristics - similar to the multi-point fuel injected engine.

Equipped with GDI (gasoline direct injection) this 1,999 cc unit generates 177 ps and 213 Nm of torque which ensures that the i40 boasts best-in-class performance and fuel economy. An Hyundai i40 with this engine and a six-speed manual gearbox will accelerate to 130 kph (81 mph) in just 15.7 seconds, record fuel economy figures of 6.7 l/100 km (combined cycle) and achieve a CO2 rating of just 156 g/km.

Overall, Hyundai is expecting a 65/35% spread between diesel and gasoline-powered i40 sales.

Eco credentials
In terms of environmental performance, the all-new Hyundai i40  feature the latest technologies developed under Hyundai's Blue Drive eco-program, including Integrated Stop & Go (ISG), low rolling-resistance tyres and an alternator management system (AMS).

When combined with the U-II 1.7-litre diesel engine developing 115 ps, the inclusion of these Blue Drive features means that CO2 emissions and fuel economy register at a staggeringly low 113 g/km and 4.3 l/100km, respectively, making the i40 the most environmentally-friendly model in its segment.

Hyundai has continuously highlighted its desire to lead the way along the road to long-term environmental sustainability for the auto industry, and Hyundai i40 furthers the company's commitment to delivering models with class-leading eco-performance.

Reduced NVH
A new acoustic package was developed for Hyundai's diesel powered i40. NVH performance, especially the exterior drive-by noise, is dramatically improved by using experimental methods such as Reciprocal Holography (to visualize noise reduction levels at certain frequency) and ADNA (Advanced Diagnostic Network Algorithm) to rank noise sources in the order of their identified transfer paths.

The NVH package aims to provide a quieter and more comfortable driving environment for diesel vehicles. The new acoustic package in Hyundai i40 utilizes materials such as air permeable carpet, sound absorbing layers for engine-room encapsulation, and textile wheel-arch liners to absorb noise sources from engine, road, and muffler, providing a 20% improvement in interior noise levels (on Articulation Index), and a 3dB reduction of outside engine noise when idling.

High-tech features
By offering an extensive standard specification with numerous high-tech features, usually available only as options in competitors' models, the high level of equipment in the Hyundai i40 promises to be one of its key attractions to potential buyers.

High-tech features include smart-parking assist and lane-keeping assist systems, as well as connectivity items like Bluetooth with voice recognition and full map navigation with rear view camera. In terms of comfort and convenience, the i40 available with an electric parking brake, front air ventilation seats, heated and reclining rear seats, as well as new features for the segment like auto-defog system, and a heated steering wheel.

Advanced lighting innovations, such as standard day-time running lights with Xenon headlamps or an LCD supervision instrument cluster, will further strengthen the Hyundai i40's position as the lead model in Hyundai's line-up and the European D-segment.

Safety
The Hyundai i40 uses the latest active and passive safety technologies to ensure maximum protection for its occupants. Active safety features, fitted as standard in several countries, include ESP (Electronic Stability Program), ABS (anti-lock braking system), Hill Start Assist Control (to prevent roll-back when starting on an incline), VSM (Vehicle Stability Management), Brake Assist System and Emergency Stop Signal.
